Village Squire, 1977-05, Page 9is not really a work of art, she says, but it appeals to many
people today.
Today nothing really surprises her: there is someone
collecting nearly everything that is old. Once chamber pots
were an oddity, today many people collect them. Anything
that is hand made or hand carved is sure to be bought, she
says, because nearly everything today is machine made and
much of it of plastics.
True to its name the House of Glass also has a good deal of
glass on display. In the antique section there are old vases,
lamps, dishes and other collectibles. There is also a gift shop
area at the store for those who aren't in the mood for
antiques.
Not everyone, Diane says, can collect furniture so they
began the gift shop for those more interested in fine china
figurines and collector's plates. These are both attractive and
an investment she says.
The shop is kept fairly busy all year around, Diane says,
although the heavy winter blizzards this year didn't make
winter a top selling period. Summer, naturally enough, is
normally the busiest season.
Business has certainly prospered over the years for the
Seips. Now not only are they both kept busy with their shop in
Monkton, but they recently oppned a new store in Talbotville.
So many of their customers came from the London district,
she says, that they decided to take their business to the
customers. Now with both shops, that part-time hobby has
certainly passed the hobby stage. ■
