because they're so well made with things like hand carving
that you just can't find today. Then there's the nostalgia value
of old things as well.
One of the interesting things about running an antique
store, she says. is that many of the things you sell you may
never have in your store again. It's not like most stores where
you simply place an order for so many of these and a dozen of
those. Here many of the items are one of a kind.
Through the years she's been running the shop Diane has
seen some changes in buying patterns. Today, for instance.
There is a lively market for a Targe round diningroom table
and press back chairs. Five years ago they could be had
relatively cheaply. But people appreciate the solid wood in the
old things compared to the "pressed sawdust" of so many
modern items, she says.
Some of the trends have surprised her. When the demand
for dry sinks first came she couldn't understand why anyone
would want one. The early Canadiana primitive look furniture
