Village Squire, 1977-03, Page 20Spring fashion parade for the Western Ontario Woman
By MARY WALDEN "
When the snows melt away and the warm spring sunshine
comes out, what will the well-dressed Western Ontario
Woman be wearing?
The most sensational new look this spring is the Suit, with a
tailored jacket, bolero or blazer. Skirts are easy, with tucks
and fullness at the waist. Tailoring is contrasted with soft,
feminine blouses, accessorized with a brimmed cloche or
fedora. Shoes are delicate with ankle straps. Bangles,
earrings and necklaces are important, but they are few and
subtle.
While there are far more skirts than pants, there are pants
aplenty, and in a great variety of lengths, from heel to
above -ankle to Bermudas, to shorts and short -shorts.
The waistline is definitely a new focus; wrapped with a sash
shaped -in suit jackets, marked by wide bias inserts, or
cinched in with a stiffened cummberbund.
The arms are played in many variations of shoulder and
sleeve interest. Sleeveless dresses, sleeveless jackets,
boleros, big peasant sleeves, raglan shoulders, squared and
dolman armholes are among these.
Trimming is much more stressed: braids, tucks,
embroideries, pipings in bright color contrast, lace insertions.
Colours are Rich and Clean. Gone are the muddy colors this
spring. Everything is bright and fresh from the most delicate
pales and neutrals to the bold and bright "hot shades" the
color -message is clearly feminine.
The rich naturals: Ecru, cream beige, Khaki, forest green,
salmon. The rich brights: hot turquoise, violet, cerise, hot
pink, navy, brilliant reds, clear green of young new grass and
sun yellow...all cleaned up with pure white -the big basic color
this season.
Fabrics this spring are delicious...whether they're crunchy
taffetas, home -fresh cottons, delicate silks, crisp pique, airy
voiles, poplin.
