Vancouver's backyard mountain. Grouse
Mountain. has announced plans for a
revolutionary 25 million dollar develop-
ment at the base of the mountain just
above the hill -dwellings of the North
Shore.
At present. Grouse is relving on the use
of the 50 -passenger Skyridc to carry this
season's skiers to the slopes at the
3,600 -foot level, v:here 6 chairlifts and
T -bars. plus 3 rope tows. operate from 9
a.m. to midnight seven days a week. With
its close proximity to Vancouver's
downtown arca. a 20 -minute drive. Grouse
is ideal for a morning. afternoon or evening
of skiing, or even a lunch break. The top of
Grouse complex houses ski facilities. apres
ski activities. lounge and -restaurant, plus
offering a tremendous vier..

fall nights become cool enough. The
system is the largest in Canada. and
guarantees earlier skiing and stabilizes
good ski conditions throughout the season.
The provincial government -operated
areas of Mount Seymour and Manning
Park will not have any major changes this
season. but will continue to offer
reasonably -priced family skiing.
Mount Seymour, just a half-hour from
Vancouver. is reached by a three -lane
nine -mile access road. completely paved to
the 3,400 foot level, where two chairlifts
and four rope tows fan out over a wide
variety of terrain.
The new road into Cypress Bowl. also on
the north shore of Vancouver. and being
developed by the provincial government,
will be kept open for cross-country skiing
this v: inter. with two alpine lifts and a
daylodge expected to be added for the
19.75-76 ski season.
Gibson Pass Ski area in Manning
Provincial Park. 145 miles east of
Vancouver. has a base elevation of 4.500
feet and a long season. Tv.o chairlifts open
up intermediate and advanced skiing on
two faces. while a T -bar. twin rope tow and
beginners lift serve the less intrepid skiers.
The area is six miles off Highway 3. with
ski -week accommodation for 80 persons at
Manning Park Lodge at the turn off.
