36TH ANNUAL WESTERN ONTARIO
EXHIBITION, May 8-30
The London Art Gallery's Western Ontario
exhibition is an annual display of juried art
work submitted by artists residink in the
Southwestern Ontario region.
This year, a small collection of 56 works
were selected for the exhibition from 347
entries by 200 artists by the following jurors:
Michael Bell, Director, Agnes Etherington
Art Centre, Kingston, Ontario; Mark Holton,
Curator, Confederation Centre Art Gallery;
Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Daniela Presetnik,
Extension Officer, London Art Gallery,
London, Ontario.
The pieces chosen for the exhibition
represent the creations of both well-known
artists and virtual newcomers. Often the
Western Ontario Exhibition has been the
vehicle through which a young, unknown
artist could receive his or her first public
gallery exposure. The 21st Annual Western
Ontario exhibition contained a work by one
such artist - for example, a young 18 year old
who had never publicly shown his work
before, his name - Jack Chambers, now, of
course, a highly successful and internation-
ally recognized figure in Canadian Art.
The 36th Annual Western Ontario
Exhibition will be officially opened by Mr.
Paul Eck, Executive Director of Theatre
London, on May 7 at 8:30 p.m. The evening
will also include a performance by an
Ensemble from the London Youth Syrhphony
Orchestra. (This performance is in aid of the
