Village Squire, 1975-12, Page 24he soon discovered Benny Bell's trouble.
"Why it's your tongue, Old Fellow," said Baldy, climbing into Benny's
throat to inspect the clapper. "You've become tongue-tied because of the P.
way your clapper has been swung. But don't worry, I can fix you up as good M
as ever."
True to his word, Baldy, with his skilful hands, soon loosened Benny's
clapper so that the little bell could sound out a true clear note again. Then iA
Baldy hid himself in the darkest corner of the bell tower to wait for the M
ringers to ring the next chime.
He did not have long to wait. As the ringers pulled on the bell ropes the g
notes of "Silent Night, Holy Night" pealed clearly on the frosty air of that
winter night, and Benny Bell's note was as clear and sweet as it had ever M
been. The bell ringers were delighted, and so were Benny Bell and all his a
family.
But the happiest one of all on that Chirstmas Eve was little Baldy, the yi
wee elf who had found the trouble even before the expert on chimes had y
been able to get to the village to help the ringers. And when Santa came M
back in his sleigh for Baldy, they both laughed merrily, for they knew that g
the village children had received a musical gift from Santa's workshop even g
though they had not written,to ask for one.
