Village Squire, 1975-12, Page 19smaller. pieces ..and another- perhaps a
single large purchase.
The collection is the fourth largest in
Ontario and is 90 per cent Canadian. J udy
says easily a third of it is, made up of the
works of local artists.
Donations to the galiery today are
restricted. Gifts that don't fit in with -the
main trend of the gallery- .toward
contemporary . Canadiah and particularly
London -area artists, may be declined with
thanks.
Part of the collection is one display each
mortth along with the changing exhibits.
Usually, J udy says, the staff - tries to
•
organize' those portions of the collection
which can be centered around a theme for
each show.
Judy is in charge of cataloguing and
doing maintenance on the collection. She
also has to look after the mountain of
paperwork involved whenever works are
borrowed for an outside show or leaves the
"gallery for some other purpose.
One of the problems with the old gallery
is that there isn't enough room for storage
of the collection. There is no where to store
sculpture so there is little included in the
permanent collection. The lack of a freight
e'tevator leads to some interesting scenesas
