This month
Our cover story this month is an illustration for one of Robert
Laidlaw's quiet short stories. This one, A Win for the Wild Ones
has a special appeal for younger readers as well as for adults. It's
illustrated by his daughter Sheila Folkard.
When Dr. William Victor Johnston gave up his career in
medicine he found a new career, in writing. His account of the
kind of medicine practiced in the country before the advent of
modern drugs, surgery and transportation called Before the Age
of Miracles became a Canadian best seller. Now he's come home
to his home town of Lucknow to write another book. We spoke
with him this month on his books and other topics.
Kaaren Batten is a housewife, mother, and darned good potter,
in whichever order you think is most important. Kaaren combines
all these jobs in an interesting lifestyle. We visited her Exeter
home and got a chance to see her working close at hand.
This month our reviewer revisited one of the first dining spots
ever reviewed in Village Squire, The Bedford Hotel in Goderich
and found it just as good as ever.
And there's much more for you in our back of the book
features, Around Town, Squire's Chef, dining listings and much
more.
