Twin Gables Hotel tries
to attend to the little things
Really tough judges of restaurants
probably wouldn't agree that there are any
restaurants in our area that are really top
notch. Most of us, however, are not so hard at
judging. Most of us like good food, plea3ant
decor, and efficient, friendly service. It's
often the little things that raise one restaurant
above the others that makes it the kind of
place you don't mind paying a little more for.
The Twin Gables Hotel in Listowel makes
an attempt to give those little things that
upgrade a restaurant. It's a modern, clean
restaurant with a decor that seems to be
western oriented, though the theme doesn't
seem to be carried out enough to make a
distinct impression. The service is fast and
friendly which can make a meal much more
pleasurable. The waitresses are nicely
dressed in red uniforms. The manager, at
least the evening we were there, wore a
tuxedo.
Little things also went against the
atmosphere, I;ke the plain paper placemats
on the tables and excess of noise that filtered
through from the nearby lounge.
The menu selection is limited which can be
a liability or an advantage depending on your
point of view. A limited menu allows more
care in the preparation of the food, but it can •
be to the disadvantage of the customer who
doesn't enjoy the dinners offered.
It was no disadvantage to these diners
however as they ordered a Delmonica rib -eye
steak and "broasted" chicken. The chicken
was $3.50 and the steak $4.90.
Larger steaks were offered called the
mankiller and the ladykiller. It was
interesting to note that the mankiller had four
extra ounces of meat but $2.00 extra on the
price tag. It also takes a very liberated man to
order a steak called a ladykiller even if he
doesn't feel up to the larger mankiller.
The price of the meals is not too bad
however when one realizes it includes the
whole meal. First came home-made beef
vegetable soup. The portion was small but
contained a hearty sampling of beef, noodles,
