them a new Canadian work, will be seen .at
Stratford's' Third Stage this summer. The
Stratford Festival will present seven Third
Stage productions of drama and music in all,
including a surprise Season Finale at the end
of September.
The Third Stage Season will also include
three operas, two of them by Canadian
composers.
Opening the Season on July 30 will be
Quebec composer Jean Vallerand's Le
Magicien and The Fool by Harry Somers,
with libretto by Michael Fram. The two
one -act chamber operas will be performed as
one programme. Following on July 31 will be
Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss, with
libretto by Hugo van Hoffmannsthal.

with Michael Tait's new play, Fellowship. Set
in present-day Toronto, the play deals with

Oscar Remembered, a memory of Oscar
Wilde as seen through the eyes of Lord Alfred
Douglas, opens August 16 in a production
compiled and performed by Maxim
Mazumdar.
Robert Patrick's Kennedy's Children, the
third drama offering at the Third Stage,
opens August 25. A moving and humorous
pcstscript tor an eventual decade, the play
was greeted by unanimous critical acclaim
when it opened in London, England last year.
The time of the play is 1974 but its people are
locked into memories of the 60's when they
were young and full of hope for a future that
has since failed them.
Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being
Earnest, perhaps the best-known and
funniest of all Wilde's works, will be seen
from September 29 to October 11 in a special
end -of -season production. Details of casting
and production for this surprise Finale will be
announced during the summer.
The official Third Stage Season will include
the first week of September this year, with
opera and drama productions for the first
