Village Squire, 1975-01, Page 26Kneebone, Bedford, widdoes join Stratford company for 1975 Casting of major roles for the 1975 Season at Stratford was announced recently by William Hutt -Director Festival Stage and Artistic Director Robin Phillips. Joining the Festival Acting Company for the first time will be Tony Award winner Brian Bedford, as Angelo in Measure for Measure, Malvolio in Twelfth Night and Captain Plume in Brecht's Trumpets and Drums. Since his award winning performance in School for Wives, Mr. Bedford has completed a National Tour of Butley in the U.S. and starred in the American production of Tom Stoppard's Jumpers at Kennedy Centre. Recognized as one of the major theatrical talents of his generation, Mr. Bedford has been featured at Stratford -On - Avon and Stratford, Conn. as well as in the West End and on Broadway. His many outstanding productions include Private Lives, with Tammy Grimes: The Knack, directed by Mike Nichols; and Five Finger Exercise in London. Jackie Burroughs, announced earlier for leading roles in Stratford's Canadian Tour and Avon Theatre productions of The Two Gentlemen of Verona and The Comedy of Errors, will appear as Victoria Balance, a proper young lady who doesn't mind stooping to improper disguise to get her man, in Trumpets and Drums. Pat Galloway will star as Joan in Shaw's Saint Joan which is opening production of the Festival Season. A leading Stratford actress for several Seasons, Miss Galloway was seen in 1974 as Rosaline in Love's Labour's Lost and Toinette in The Imaginary Invalid and is at present with the Manitoba Centre, appearing as Madame Raevskaya in The Cherry Orchard. Gale Garnett, another leading member of Stratford's Touring Company, will appear in Arthur Miller's The Crucible which joins the Avon Theatre repertory mid-July. She will have the role of Abigail Williams, the young catalyst in the infamous Salem witch-hunt around which Miller's powerful drama is woven. Miss Garnett will. also continue in The Two Gentlemen and Comedy of Errors when the Shakespeare productions return to the Avon Theatre in June. For his leading lady in his first production at the Festival Theatre, Artistic Director Robin Phillips has chosen Martha Henry as Isabella in Measure for Measure. Miss Henry will also be featured at the Avon Theatre as Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible. An actress whose dramatic skill has brought her high praise in many Festival productions, Miss Henry was featured as Thaisa in Pericles and Constance in King John this past season. William Hutt will star as Vincentio, Duke of Venice, in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, a role he has performed once before at Stratford, in the 1969 production.
