You will find it in Quebec City in every season of the year but with winter "joie de vivre" seems to reach its peak. With the first snow, every Quebecois thinks of "Le Carnaval" and "Bonhomme Carnaval" dances with joy knowing that soon the ski slopes will open. Quebec City is near one of the most famous alpine ski centers in Canada and it is now getting well known for its cross-country trails which have been compared with Sapporo. If you've ever been to Mont -Sainte -Anne, don't be surprised on your next trip if you don't recognize the place. Many changes have been made in the last few months. Among them are new roads, an articial lake (1,800 x 1,200 feet) and a dam at the base of the mountain. Le Chalet on rural road Saint -Julien will serve as a "centre d'accueil" (rest haven). It will be the main departure centre for cross-country skiers. A new chalet will serve 2,000 meals an hour cafeteria style. A restaurant, bar and a mexxanine will give you a wonderful view on the mountain. Next year a new $12 million hotel with restaurants, cafeterias, bars, 125 rooms and a hundred condominiums will be opened. It will be the first government - private enterprise joint venture of its kind in Canada. The ski slopes have also been renovated. La "piste familiale" has been widened by 80 feet. Two other slopes "S" and "Super S" were leveled and seeded. This will extend by three weeks the skiing period. Last year, when most of the ski slopes were closed because of bad weather, the ones around Quebec city were still open. In fact, (on the north side), Mont -Sainte -Anne was in operation from November the 20th to May the 5th. For 1974-75, four new slopes equipped with a new fast T -bar will be in operation. One of the biggest events of 1975 will be the North American Championship of cross-country skiing. Champions from Europe, Sweden, Russia and other parts of the world will participate. Other places like LacBeauport with its artificial snow and Stoneham are centers where skiers will enjoy their favorite sport. HAPPY EASTER!
