at old Albion
BY R. B. RUDD
June dining -out night found us at the Albion Hotel in
Bayfield. There has been a face-lifting here but the charm
of the old inn is still intact. Old lamps and pictures add to
the bygone days atmosphere.
This evening was different from our other visits to resta-
urants in that this was a party and a special dinner was
served.
Hors d'oeuvres were served prior to dinner and a variety
of beverages was available for those who desired them.
Dinner was announced and we were seated at lovely old
polished tables.
Shrimp cocktail preceded tender, juicy roast beef, well -
scrubbed potatoes in their jackets, fresh asparagus and
golden carrots -- attractive as well as delicious. A very
light salad of home-grown leaf lettuce, served in an old
wooden butter bowl, complemented the meal. Warm,
crusty french bread was also served.
Dessert was an excellent rhubarb crisp with a dab of
whipped cream. And the finishing touch was provided by
steaming coffee.
Although this was a party occasion, the Albion does
serve dinner from 5:30 to 7:00 p. m. daily and reservations
are not necessary.
However when the holiday season is in full swing, one
might be wise to phone in advance.
