This month ...
With nearly all media centred in the big cities, we've been
brainwashed for a long time now that small towns were just
small time, that most people lived in the cities and all the
tax money came from the cities. Many city people would
have you believe that if it wasn't for the city tax dollars,
we'd still be in the backwoods without highways or commun-
ications.
We've reprinted an article this month from the Canadian
Paper%crker Journal which shows some startling facts about
small towns.
We also look this month at a Local Initiatives project with
a difference. It's a project run during the past winter by a
group of Goderich painters who will brighten the stay of
patients in Huron county hospitals.
There's another short story from a local writer this month
and you'll find articles on many other topics as well, from
travel to weaving.
Follow up...
As lo.e predicted last month in our story on the Farm Show
tour, critics and audiences everwhere loved it. Some of you
may have been among the audience in Stratford May 13 at
the wind-up of the tour. Between 1300 and 1400 persons
showed up in the huge Stratford theatre to see the play,
many for their second, or even third time. Officials at the
theatre had expected 400 at most. A victory for Canadian
culture started here in western Ontario?
The show now goes on to Ottawa after the actors have
had time to rest for a while and to prepare a new play
similar to the one they did here about the people of North-
ern Ontario.
