Meals on Wheels
The success of the youthful Meals on
Wheels in Lucknow has prompted
organizers to add another meal during the
week bringing the number of days meals
are available to three.
Mary Doyle and ; uth Thompson of the
organization said that at the request of
clients, meals will now be available Mon-
days, Wednesdays and Fridays.
"Clients wished.to have more meals so
we took a poll," said Mrs. Boyle.
Extra,billing
Huron County physicians will be asked
to sign statements indicating their will-
ingness to opt out of the Ontario Health in-
surance Plan, (OHIP) should the Ontario
government's proposal to ban extra -billing
be passed through the legislature.
The decision to canvass the county's 48
doctors individually was made at a
January 23 meeting of the Huron County
chapter of theOntario Medical Association
(OMA) according to Dr. Ken ,'todney of
Seaforth, spokesman for the local associa-
tion. Dr. Ro. Bey expects most of the local
OMA members to go along with the plan.
Hockey Crackdown
Hockey fans attending games at the
Lucknow arena may have noticed that
more penalties involving the . stick. were
called at the beginning of the yea-'. It's all
part of an attempt to encourage players to
keep their sticks on the ice and keep the
wood out of the fracas they may get into.
The crackdown on stick work includes
infractions concerning high -sticking, cross
checking, slashing and hooking.
"The CAHA (Canadian Amateur Hockey
Association) asked coaches what they'd
like to. see improved in the game. They
wanted to see more stick penalties called,"
said Dave Black, who referees at the
arena.
Montgomery Motors open new building
February
It''s been almost 40 years in the making
bat Montgomery Motors opened a brand
new building for the Ford car dealership
and Montgomery buslines last Friday,.
February 14.
The front part of the building was filled
with well wishers from the community
who' had seen Gordon Montgomery later
with the help of his sons build the little
. garage into one of the largest businesses in.
town.
Montgomery's started ina garage built
in 1912 by Garth Osterander. Next door to
the garage stood a blacksmith's shop
operated by Alec Crawford.
Then Ed Renwick. bought the garage
from Osterander and ran the shop before
Montgomery bought i in 1948.
"I'd never. been in a garage before I
bought this one," said Montgomery
laughing.
Lucknow to supply water
Lucknow cotincil agreed' it would sell
water to township residents south of the
village, currently hooked into the
municipal system if the townships of West
Wawanosh and Ashfield construct a main
replacing the deteriorating main now in
service. • .
Greg Alton, a tdwnship resident receiv-
ing town water, asked Councillor Eldon
Mann which of drilling a well or to con-
tributing to construction of a main is a bet-
ter solution when the village is no longer
able to supply 'water would be completed
once the watermain in judged unsuitable.'
"Before they even approach, the
°townships, we should have Gary (Austin, •
village' works supervisor) estimate the
cost for laying it (a potential water line),"

Big Lottario Witmer
Some people like to :play the same
numbers every time they headto the Lot
tario machine but Maggie Legrand of 518
Campbell Street, Lucknow has her own
system. She selects whatever numbers pop
into her head at the time.
This • haphazard system netted her
$345,095.90 in the last Lottario draw.
Her father Joe Legrand was the first to
•notice, . on February 8, the numbers had
won. Over the weekend he tried to break it
gently to his wife and daughter. ,
"Maggie . took it very well," said
Legrand..
"At first I didn't believe it," she said.
• Committee set up •
Reeve Herb Clark has, appointed Coun-
cillors Eldon Mann and George Anderson
to act as an employee salary review com-
mittee for salary negotiations for 198748.
"I want you "to compare rates with com-
parable surrounding municipalities and
compare wages paid and hours worked to
the people in the village," said Clark.

Floodline proposal •
Lucknow council has set a date for an
open house. . to consider the proposed fill
line mapping for the municipality in the
Lucknow, River flood plain.
The open house has-been set for March 6 •
at the town hall basement from 2-4 p.m.
and 74 p.m.
"We applied for a special policy area
designation of, one (major flood) to 100
(years) instead of the regional, line which
is considerably greater," said Reeve Herb
Clark.
• The special policy area designation
allows residents . to up -grade properties
within the flood plain Zone that may other'
Wise be restricted under the regional flood
line.
Amiiracle saves 4 -year-old
Deirdre Graham of RR 1 Lucknow says
"a miracle" saved her 4% -year-old
daughter's life last October.
And she said therairacle is still working
its wonders by giving her daughter the
chance to lead a normal life.
A determined little Adria Graham is
learning 'to walk, talk, and read all over
again after almost drowning October 26 at
a chicken cleaning plant near Lucknow.
Her mother said the girl climbed into a
tank holding effluent, thinking it was a
sandbox.
Mrs. Graham and husband Lloyd found
the girl," pulled her out and quickly began
Cardio Pulminary Resuscitation (CPR).
Business won't be affected
Lucknow council hopes that a battery of
tests Reeve Herb Clark is scheduled to
have in London won't have an adverse af-
fect on conducting the municipality's
business'.
Clark was admitted to Wingham and
District Hospital last week and is schedul-
ed for tests in_London.
The reeve and the clerk are typically
authorized to conduct municipal business
