"Merry Christmas

A cold, stormy night
It was a cold and stormy Christmas Eve,
the stormiest that it had been in many
years. The wind lashed at the treetops and
strained at the trunks. The snow was thick
but still two small figures ploded through its
deepest and heaviest masses.
They, seemed lost and not sure where to
go. As they wandered one yelled to the
other, "We must find a place to stay quickly
or we will freeze in .the cold ! "
The other one seemed to nod in recogni-
tion and soon he pointed ahead And tried to
shout over the howelling wind. Ahead of
them, lay a small wood cabin with wood pil-
ed high against the side.
They trudged for the door tripping and
falling into the white fluffiness. As they
banged loudly on the door, snow slid off the
roof and practically. buried them..
When the door opened a small, little gray
head stuck out and the children scrambled
to their feet: They asked quite politely if
they might stay until the storm blew over.
Strangely the old man did nothing but swing
open the door and go back to his chair.
May the magic of
Christmas bless
one and all
with the spirit of
brotherhood and unity.

The children stepped in and shut the door.
They took off their heavy boots and set them
by the door. The undid their scarves -and
shuffled up to the fireplace. Tney all said
nothing until the old man blurted out, "I
don't have no Christmas .dinner for you's to
eat, just porridge."
He set out three bowls and spooned each
one full. The children got up and came to the
table.. They all sat down and the children
stared at the man as he began eating right
away.
"Well don't goch at me," grouched the
Man, "eat up before it gets cold."
The kids cleared the table when they were
done and scurried outside to get some wood.
As they piled the wood in the fireplace they
looked up and for the first time theman was
smiling.
When they were finished they sat at the
table and soon the man was telling all his old
hunting stories. They laughed together and
in the end that .was the best Christmas the
three had ever had.
