A change a of heart
A-choo! A-choo! Why did it always have
to be me? Why did I have to be sick on
Christmas Eve? While everybody else was
singing caroles, listening to the Christmas
Story and watching the Christmas. Play, I
was sick. Speaking of plays, I was to be
Mary the lead role, then this morning,
wouldn't you know it, I had to come down
with this bad cold that left me sneezing,
sniffing, and feeling rather sorry for
myself. To top it all off, Jenna -Lee
Dickison was to be Mary, since I was sick.
Jenna -Lee and I were top rivals in
everything we competed in, schoolwork,
sports, Calvinettes, cheerleading, gym-
nastics, everything! Now she had the lead
role in the play, the one I had worked so
long and hard for. Some Christmas!
Just then the doorbell rang. I climbed
slowly out of bedand shuffled down. the
stairs in my yellow fuzzy slippers ,and
yellow fleecy housecoat. The doorbell rang
again and again. I'm coming, I'm com-
ing ! " I yelled in a hoarse voice. I opened
the door and was surprised to see a
delivery boy from the "Flower Garden"
standing there holding a beautiful, glow-
ing, red poinsettia.
"Is there a Miss MacDonald there?" the
delivery boy inquired..
"That's me," I repled in my hoarse
Voice.
He then shoved the plant in my hands
and walked back down the slippery *alk,
almost falling. Slowly I closed the door,
shuffled to the kitchen, and set the plant
down on the kitchen table. I looked for a
card and soon found one tha said: •
"Merry Christmas and I hope you feel
well soon "
Love: Jenna -Lee Dickison.
Jenna -Lee actually sent me a Christmas
flower? She really cared. Shocked, I sat
down on a chair and' let, my thoughts run.
Why had she spent money on me when we
were arch -rivals, always fighting, and
always eyeing each other with hatred?
Then I spotted more small printing on the
other side and this is what it said:
Dear Holly:
I know how you must be feeling, so I
decided to send you this flower. Tomorrow
is Christmas Day and fighting is not part of
the true Christmas spirit. Let's be friends
and celebrate the birth of our dear Saviour
Jesus Christ in peace.
Love and peace forever,
your new friend: Jenna -Lee.
After reading that I cried, I really did. I
never once thought about how Jesus must
feel with us quarelling all the time, never
thinking how un -Christian we were acting.
I never•once thought about His birth for I
was too busy feeling sorry for myself.
Right then and there I had a change of
heart..I got down on my hands•and knees,
right there in the kitchen and prayed that I
would never again forget the real meaning
of Christmas and that there would be
peace between Jenna -Lee and me.
Then I got up, picked up the plant,
watered it, and shuffled slowly back up the
stairs with my cold, redeyes and a change
of heart. •
Long after the plant died,1 remembered
the lesson Jenna -.Lee had taught me. We
are now friends, although we still have the
occasional spat, and wish we would have
made peace between us years earlier.
Thank you Lord! .You work in wondrous
ways! -

MORE than 1900 years ago there was a Man born contrary to the laws of life.
This1Man lived in poverty and was reared in.obscurity..He did not travel extensively.
He possessed neither wealth nor influence. His relatives were inconspicuous,
and had neither training nor formal education.
In infancy He startled a king; in childhood He puzzled doctors; in .manhood
He ruled .the course of nature.
He healed the multitudes without medicine and made no charge for
His service,
He never wrote a book, and yet all the libraries of the country could not
hold the books that have been written about Him,.
He never wrote a song,,and yet He has furnished the theme for
more songs than all the songwriters combined.
He never founded a college, but all the schools put together cannot boast
of having as many students.
He never marshalled an army, and yet no leader ever had more
volunteers.
IHe'never practiced psychiatry, and yet He has healed more broken hearts
than all the doctors far and near.
Once each week the wheels of commerce cease their turning and
multitudes pay homage and respect to Him.
The names of the past proud statesmen, scientists, philosophers, and
theologians have come and gone; but the name of this Man abounds
more and more, Though 1900 years have passed since His crucifixion,
yet He still lives. Herod could not destroy Him, andthe grave
could not hold Him. °
He stands forth upon the highest pinnacle of heavenly glory,
Proclaimed of God,'acknowledged;by angels, adored by saints,
and feared by devils, as the living,persona1 Christ,
our Lord and Saviour,
