Merelyn Letsou St. Peter's, Luekn w, St. Paul's, Ripley, Ascension, Kinlough What was it that drew the wisemen to ethlehem? Was it only the magnificence of a star, newly -born in the heavens? Was it only curiosity that drew them or did the longing go deeper? Were the wisemen drawn by a longing that even they, with all their learning, could not explain? Scripture tells us that the wisemen, in their search for the Christ child, sought guidance. They turned to Herod and in him found only suspicion, fear and treachery. It was in the prophetic words of scripture that they discovered the path which, by the light of the star., led them to Bethlehem and the Christ child. In each one of us, there is planted a long- ing for the love and presence of God. Have we, like the wisemen, felt and heeded that longing? We, like the Magi, have seen a vi-' .cion, a star. We have been told many, many times about the birth of the Messiah in Bethlehem. Yet, have we personally AJ C. Have we set out to find the one who alone gives us life? To begin the journey in earnest, as the wisemen did, is to take the birth of Jesus seriously. To begin the journey is to heed the call of God in us. We will meet our own " Herods-". The question is whether or not we succumb to those distractions or temp- tations wi Itch seek to lure us off the path. If we, like the wisemen, listen to the words of scripture and follow the path laid out for us, we will find our way to Jesus. If for God we open our ears and hearts to hear the good news of Christ's birth revealed in scripture we are . awn beyond our doubt and sin to the loving aims of our saviour. he is already there, waiting to receive us and welcome us home to Himself. May each one of you make that journey to{ethlehem. May you find the Lord for whom your heart longs. May you share his love with others who also long to ; <''w. him. 1 wish you a very blessed Christmas with your family.
