Christmas is °a wonderful time of the year and the students are anxiously awaiting the Christmas holidays. Carol Singing Carol singing has created a tremendous Christmas mood each day. On Monday, the band, led by Mr. Cayley, had everyone dancing to Rudolph the Red -Nosed Reindeer and singing merrily to other carols. On Tuesday, Mrs. Black led the singing while Mrs. Boak played the piano. During the singing session, Frosty the Snowman was chased by a policeman. On Wednesday, Mrs. MacDonald accom- panied Mrs. Maclntyre as she led the sing- ing. The Grade 1 class entertained with a short song and dance routine. The students entered the gym to the ° sound of Mr. Pike's sweet voice as he sang The First Noel and played the guitar on Thursday. A very special mood was set as Mr. Pike played his guitar for several other carols. Amanda. Peck played the piano as Luke Cranston did an excellent job of playing the drums for "The Little Drummer Boy". Vitamins for Mr. Pike To end the week on a spectacular note, Mrs. Broad helped Santa give some special people their "special" Chrsitmas gifts. Mr. Pike, .who . had been ill with the dreaded flu, received some "Flintstone Vitamins" to make him feel better. Mr. Cayley was excited to get a "baby band".: to help him make a big band over the holidays: Mrs. Ritchie kissed Santa when he gave her a cushion; her "seat of honor". Slippers for Mrs. Maclntyre Of course, Santa didn't forget Mrs. Maclntyre who is run off her feet doing things for the school. She got a new pair of slippers. Mr. Schwartz got a pair of ear- muffs so that he cannot hear the 'students knocking on his door at noon -hour and so his ears don't get cold when: he puts up the flag in- the morning, -Mr.:: Burkhart; who organizes and re -organizes the rooms in the school, got a bottle of Mr, Clean. Santa didn't. forget Mrs. Clooney who leaves on her honeymoon to Jamaica on Saturday. She hugged Santa when he presented her with red sunglasses and an. "I Love You" towl. The students left the gym singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". What a way to end a delightful week of celebrating Christmas! Each class then went to the video areas to watch movies . which they really enjoyed. Turkey dinner The highlight of °the day was when the • whole school sat down to a delicious turkey dinner served in the gymnasium. Grade 6 sang "Grace" and the students were then efficiently served by parent volunteers. Thanks to Mrs. McEwan, Mrs. Broome,' Mrs. Bellmore and Mrs. Van Meeteren for their invaluable help. Also, a huge thank- you to Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Gingrich for organizing the whole meal and to the staff for providing the yummy ice-cream dessert. The Grade 8 class created . a wonderful atmosphere in decorating' the gym as a "Christmassy dining -room'". t.Thank-you, all!!! Get well, Joey • /Tile Kindergartens have had a very ex- citing week. They were invited to Mrs. Campbell's Grade 3 class to preview their Christmas play, They thoroughly enjoyed it. The Kindergartens would like to ex- press "Get Well Wishes" to Joey Earnest. after his operation. Elf visits.eIass Grade 1 this week has been occupied in completing their Christmas centres. They had an exciting visit from one of Santa's elves and he gave gum to all the tidy students. The class is all ready for Santa as they feel they have been very good. , Christmas presentation • This week, Grade 2 received a special treat. They were invited to the Grade 3 class . as well as the Grade 1 and Kindergarten classes to watch their Christinas presentation. They thank Grade 3 for the invitation. The class is really looking forward to Christmas Day Grade 3 this week have had an extreme - busy time. On Monday, they entertained he primary grades with a Christmas • a Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday; December 2491980=Page 9 wonderful time at LCPS presentation, Their parents attended the program of singing and dancing on Tues- day and had lunch after. On Thursday, they entertained their friends at the nurs- ing home. Grade 4 have enjoyed many various ac- tivities. They baked cookie portraits of themselves and iced thern accordingly. They were fflelicious. Special thanks, to Mrs, O'Neill and Mrs. Austin for helping with the activity. The special education class has been finishing their decorations for the tree, They are making wreaths and cards as well. This week, Grade 5 has been very busy doing Christmas activities. They.are anx- ious for the arrival of Christmas, and look forward to the New Year. The Grade 6 class this week has enjoyed making Christmas decorations as well as creating geometrical poinsettia flowers. Grade.7 had a special "Family Studies" project of making gingerbread. They were on display .at the front of the gym during the turkey dinner. Excited about New Year Grade 8 have been preparing for the turkey dinner. and the entertainment for the last day of school. They have just com- pleted their Christmas surveys and are ex- cited about the New Year. The 'Grade .8 LOPS class, as well, were the leaders for bring- ing in canned goods for the needy families in the area. It has been a great success. Carolfest On Wednesday, December 17, the Carolfest was held at the Lucknow United Church. It' featured the Lucknow Concert Band and many area choirs. Thanks goes to to the Lucknow Presbyterian choir, the Lucknow-Kinlough youth group choir, South Kinloss Presbyterian choir, St. Joseph's Roman Catholic choir, and the Lucknow United Church choir for their remarkable contributions to the event. , °The offerings taken at the event totalled $308 which will be donated to the Salvation ArOn behalf of the band, . this reporter would like to thank Mr. Cayley for instruc- ting the band.
