at Silver Stick tourney
The Lucknow Midgets won their first
game of the season against Howick last
Monday night with a 5-2 victory.
Lucknow 5 Howick 2
Lucknow scored the only goal of the first
period to take a 1-0 .lead into the dressing
room. -The second period was scoreless up
until the last four minutes of play, with
Lucknow scoring twice and Howick once.
In the third period, Lucknow open up with
two more goals with Howick only manag-
ing one goal.
• Lucknow goals were scored by Kevin
DeJong, Dave MacDougall, Jamie Hum-
phrey, Jeff Gammie and Harvey Kikkert.
Assists went to Scott Hackett, Kevin De -
Jong and Jeff Burgsma.
The Midgets travelled to Wingham early
Saturday morning to take part in the Silver
Stick Tournament.
Lucknow 7 Howick.5
They met Howick again in another ex-
citing, high scoring game. Lucknow got off
to a good start scoring, three goals in the
first period and another two goals in the se-
cond period.
In the third period, Lucknow was ahead
by a score of 7-2 when Howick got three
quick goals. But this didn't stop Lucknow
from gaining the victory, 7-5.
Goals were scored by Scott ; ackett with
two with singles from Jeff ?:;urgsma, John
Vandervelde, Jeff Pollard, Harvey Kik-
kert and Steve DeJong. Assists came from
Sam Murray with 2, and Jeff Gammie,
Steve Huffman, John Vandervelde . and
Mark McConnell with one each.
In the second game of the tournament,
Lucknow took on Arthur in another ex-
citing game.
Arthur 6 Lucknow 5
Lucknow got their first two goals in the
second period. At the beginning of the third
period, the score was 3-2 for Arthur. The
• Arthur team then got three consecutive
goals to put them ahead 6-2.
With less than five minutes left in the
third period, Lucknow really started play-
ing and for their efforts, netted three more
goals in two minutes. But, they couldn't
get the tying goal which left the score 6-5
for Arthur.
Lucknow goals were scored by Jamie
Humphrey with 2, Jeff Pollard with 2 with
Kevin DeJong adding a single. Assists
came from Jeff Gammie with 2, and John
Vandervelde, Kevin DeJong and Kirk Liv-
ingston with one each.
Lancers take two on weekend
The Lucknow Lancers skated their way
to two victories over the weekend as they
downed Mildmay 5-2 Friday and trounced
Kincardine 16-1 Sunday night. .
Lancers 5 Mildmay 2
.The game in Mildmay got off to a slow
start as neither team was skating well. But
Art Clark managed to score one as the
Lancers held a one goal lead after one
period. Both teams scored twice in the se-
cond with Steve MacPherson and Wayne
Phillips scoring for the Lancers. In the
final period, Mike Whitcroft went cruising
into the opposition's end, stole the puck
• froni Jim Murray and slid the puck past
the goalie for his first of the year. Kevin
Clark added one more minutes later to end
the scoring as the Lancers came home
with two more points.
It was a short-handed Kincardine Kings
squad that showed up Sunday night and
with Coach Hamilton playing all his aces,
it was a nice victory.
Lancers 16 - Kincardine 1
The Lancers held a 5-0 lead after one,
10-0 after two and scored 6 more in the
third to end the game. The scoring was
spread out among everyone and old timers
Jim Murray and Rod Simpson even got
goals.
Mystery Man
This week's mystery man is none other
than Huron Township beef producer David
Gibson. David is one of the rear guards on
the team but uses his speed to lead the at-
tack quite regularly. And, when the puck
comes to David on the point, he becomes a
threat to both teams.
The Lancers host Teeswater next Sun-
day night for their game of the week:
Pee Wee's best Blyth, Mildmay
Over the first five days of December, the
peewee A team won three games. They
defeated Mildmay once and Blyth twice.
Lucknow 4 - Blyth 2
The Lucknow team got off to a sluggish
start and let their Blyth opponents take an
early two goal lead. It was into the second
period before any real spark was ignited
by a fine.passing play from Gavin Hunter
to Robbie Crich around the defenceman
and back to Hunter for the first Lucknow
goal. Adrian Rau tied the game up shortly
after that beating the goalie on a sharp
angled shot after Chris Stevenson had put
forth a good second effort to pass the puck
to Rau while falling after a 'check.
Lucknow went ahead to stay in the third
period 'on a goal by Mike Vanderveld after
Hunter took the draw in the Blyth end and
Vanderveld put ft high in the, net.
Vanderveld scored once more into the
empty net with one second remaining in
the game. The -stand out performer on
defence was scrappy Terry Stanley who
was kept busy repeatedly clearing the •
ptick from the Lucknow end as another 20
minutes in penalties was killed.
Lucknow 7 -. Mildmay 4
The next evening the boys took on
Mildmay at home. They scored first on a
Chris Stevenson :goal assisted by Brad
Rhody and Stanley, but Mildmay came
right back and tied the game on a power
play goal: Rau put Lucknow ahead in the
second on a shot from the slot after a spurt
of good pressure on the Mildmay goalie.
Vanderveld then put Lucknow, up by 2
when while forechecking and playing
shorthanded, he came. up with -the puck.in
,front and beat the goalie cleanly. Mildmay
name back with a goal, when all the
Lucknow players were caught out of posi-
tion and Mildmay took advantage of the er-
