The class has a new water cen- tre which they all love. On 1VI,onday, they wrote letters to Santa with the help of their Grade 7 peer partners. Thanks! Visit dairy farm Mrs. Jewitt's Grade 2 visited the dairy farm of Glen and Vanda McNeill bn We iesday, December 3. The children learned how a dairy farm functions and what a cow needs to eat. The children also learned that cows have four stomachs and give about 125 glasses of milk a day. The Ontario Dairy Princess and the Huron County Dairy Princess discussed breeds of dairy cattle, Canada's Food Guide, and nutrients in milk. Mrs. Clarke's Grade 3 oonn 4, Krakatoa, had a visitor, Mr. Cliff Mann, who came to show the class some ex- periments. He showed the class how to get iron out of water and hdw much calcium is in the water. Thanks Mr. Mann! This week the class made rain in the classroom! They got a cbokie sheet with ice cubes on it and a kettle. They waited for the kettle to boil and then they put it under the cookie sheet. It started to rains. The class had another visitor in Room 4, Mr. Warren Robinson. He showed them how to "mime". The class has a new stu- dent, Matt Hunter. Welcome to Krakatoa, Matt! This week the class is "introducing" John S Dalton. The reporters for Grade 3 Room 4 are Carrie Meriam and Angela rindley. Lines and textures In Grady: 3 Room 10, Mrs. Graham taught a lesson on line and texture to the class. Students enjoyed outlining their various textures with black strips of paper. Mr. Robinson introduced some techni- ques of initial drama which the class enjoyed. Graphing activities The pupils in Mrs. Worsell's Grade 5 Portable 1 class are tallying their classmate's favorite sports, hobbies, foods; etc. in preparation for graphing activities. They are busy practicing with their Grade 4 buddies for the Christmas concert. ° Poster contest Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 6 were pleased with the results of the Lucknow Legion's Remembrance Day poster and poem com- petition. Michael Cere won second prize for his poster "It's Not Just the Parade," and Jodi Webster won first prize for her poem "Remembering." Congratulations to both students. Gingerbread houses On December 2, the students in Mrs. Scott's Grade 4 class made gingerbread houses. The class would like to thank Mrs. Cranston; Mrs. Beiman, Mrs. S Alton, Mrs. R Alton, Mrs. MacAulay, Mrs. Todd, Mrs. McNay, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. McNee, Mrs. Storey, Mrs. Asnong, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. MacLennan, Mrs. MacKenzie, Mrs. Dhaliwal, Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Andrew for their help. The houses turned out very well and each one decorated differently according to each child's creativity. The.class would like to thank Mrs. Scott for making this day possible, for organizing it so well and for supplyng candies for those who didn't have enough for dedorations. It was a SUPER project. Australia workshop . Last Thursday and Friday, Patricia Robinson went to Robertson school to take part in a workshop on Australia. Other students from Brookside and four other schools.. took.: part : in . the . workshop, Reporters for Grade 4 are Patricia Robin- son and Mellisa MacLennan. New teacher interviewed The reporters interviewed Mr. Culp who . came to Brookside in September to teach Grade 4 and 5 in Portable 2. Mr. Culp lives on a small farm near Goderich. He is happily married to the most beautiful woman in Huron County and they have two children, Randy in Grade 10 and Alison in Grade 8. Mr. Culp came to Huron County in 1975 to. teach'in'Clinton. He has.taught Grade.5 to .. 7. He came from the Niagara area where he had worked in a canning factory. He • is a graduate of the University of Guelph where he has a degree in Agriculture. Mr. Culp enjoys working outside in his spare time, gardening and growing strawberries. He likes living in a rural area and he enjoys teaching in the portable 'where he feels it allows a little more -freedom...... . Staff and students welcome Mr. Culp to Brookside as the school feels fortunate to have.him. Wins award Brookside is proud of their Teachers' Aide, Anne Alton, for her successful weekend at Sing -Swing, a Junior Farmers Talent Competition weekend at Georgian College, Barrie. . Anne's design for the weekend's .Pro- gramme cover earned her a lovely Junior Farmers medallion. Ann introduced "warm fuzzies" to the Junior Farriers . Group,and used them in the cover design. A :"warm fu2zy" is a tiny furry creature who represents. something nice to say or do for someone. Here's a warm fuzzy for Ann who brings her smile and skill to Brookside every day.
