Blyth play
The Grade 1 class is almost healthy
again just in time for Christmas fun. They
are looking forward to a trip to Blyth on
Friday to see "A Prairie Boy's Winter."
They have a special Christmas present
for their families in crafts. They can also
read all the words on their Christmas tree.
Christmas spirit
The Christmas has gotten the Grade 2
class really excited. They have been really
busy little elves at their Language
Activities.
The Christmas shapes books have been a
real hit attraction at the reading centre.
They really enjoyed Mike Cranston's
creative story called "My First Present"
and also getting in the spirit by Jonathon
Austin's story "Santa Gets Ready for
Christmas."
Grade 2 are getting ready for the
Christmas assemblyas it is only a few
days away.
Christmas songs
The Grade 3 class is right in the
Christmas spirit too. They are busy liven-
ing up ,the season by singing Christmas
songs, working in their activity centres
and making Christmas stories.
The Grade 1 and 2 classes were enter-
tained
by the Grade 3's performance of the
play "The Magic Ring and the Stone."

Christmas" in the concert. Many thanks to
community members who have generous-
ly loaned materials for the costumes.
Christmas centres in Mrs. Broad's
Grade 4 have added to the Christmas spirit
as students research symbols and create
seasonal stories, poems and artwork.
Mr. Bennett's Grade 5 class is progress-
ing eastward in their regional studies of
Canada.
Many thanks to the parents and pupils
who brought in boxes and decorated them
for the Christmas presentation.
The Grade 6 class has worked hard to
create and design pictures of some
Christmas toys. These pictures will be
some of the decorations in the auditorium
to be seen at the Christmas concert.
Christmas across Canada
The Christmas season provides an ex-
cellent opportunity to examine the news
coverage in different towns and cities
throughout Canada. As a result, the Grade
8 students have written letters to over 40
newspapers from British Columbia to
Newfoundland requesting that an edition
be sent to LCPS for the study. Not only did
the activity include a chance to brush up
on letter writing skills but also a challenge
to find the location of the unusual -sounding
place names.
Needless to say,.the students are looking
forward with eager anticipation to the ar-
rival of the newspapers.
Through their studies of Christmas
traditions around the: world,, the, .Grade .
students now know why Santa Claus is all
red. According to a Carribean song, when
Santa came across the ocean he forgot his
suntan lotion. You can guess that the con-
sequence was a terrible sunburn for Santa
and a red nose for Rudolph.
