By Alan Rivett
Approximately 50 members of the public
attended a public meeting in Dungannon to

voice their opposition to a proposed
recreation complex on Concession °4 of
West Wawanosh Township.
The planning meeting at the Senior
Citizens' Centre in Dungannon in
December 1 was held by the Huron County
Planning Department to 'get the public's
view on the recreation complex, called
Sherwood Forest Lodge,' to be built in the
township by Alvin Sherwood of

representing Mr. Sherwood, in introduc-
tory comments at the meeting, said the 450
,acre of land east of Dungannon would to in-
clude a restaurant and the lodge for ac-
commodations, Cabins would be located; at
the interior of the site with the rest of the
land beim used for "passive recreation"
for such uses as snowmobiling and skiing.
He -also explained that the farming would
continue on 300 of the 450 acres.
"The assets of the property, are that it is
a large land mass, it is very scenic and. it is
a very attractive site. It has excellent
recreation potential with a mixture of
forest and water. The property has spec-
tacular views. You can see Lake Huron,"
said Mr. Hill,
• Mr. Hill further explained that he and
Mr. Sherwood have done some
preliminary researchas to "how receptive
the comt•nrnunity would be to this type of
plan" by meeting with county planning
department officials. After a meeting with
planner Cindy Fisher, Mr. Hill said she

West Wawanosh Township is issuing ac-
cess cards to ratepayers who use the
Municipal Landfill site on Concession 8 of
the Township.
Following the resignation of Gordon
Foran and the hiring of Tony McQuail as
supervisor, Council decided to have access
cards to stop non-residents from using the
site. Other municipalities have experienc-
ed problems in finding new sites and Coun-
cil wants to ensure that this site serves the
ratepayers of West Wawanosh for as long
as possible,
Residents can pick up their card at the
site. It is also hoped that materials can be
recycled to further reduce the amount be-
ing buried.
Site hours for December will be 1 to 6 on
Wednesdays and 9 to 5 on Saturdays.
Winter Hours will start in January with the
site being open Saturdays only from 9 to 5.
At this time of year toy shelves and
clothes closets may need a good cleaning
in preparation for the additions of
Christmas. On December 13 and 20 useable
toys and clothing will be collected at the
site. Residents of West Wawanosh who
want to recycle a toy can do so. Clothing
should be clean and in plastic bags. Toys
and clothing will be taken to the Salvation
Army prior to Christmas,
