The 230 acre park is located in a large
meander of the Maitland River. Camp-
ers are greeted by a series of wooded
plateaus that step gently down to the
sharply defined banks of the sparkling
Maitland River. The shoreline is quite
steep in places providing scenic look-

just relax along the riverbank.
The Maitland River is famous for its
fishing, especially in the spring and fall
as rainbow trout and salmon make
their spawning runs upstream. The
park also has a stocked fish pond ideal
for younger anglers.
You are certain to feel at home on one
of the campsites. Hydro and water
hookups are available on about half
the sites. You can choose to camp in an
open area or under the trees. Wash-

Erosion Control
Assistance Program
Under the M.V.C.A.'s erosion control
assistance program, private landown-
ers can receive assistance in erosion
control along streams and rivers. Iri
1986 two projects were completed in
the. Town of Brussels and Wallace
Township.
The Brussels project is located just
downstream from the Brussels Conser-
vation Area and dam. It involved the
installation of 400 feet of .bank protect-
ion, culvert extensions and seeding
with a suitable grass cover. The com-
pleted work stood up well against the
high runoff conditions of September
and October.
The Wallace Township project is locat-
ed on Sideroad 18-19, Concession 1-2.
The purpose of the project was to
redirect a section of the Maitland River
that was changing course and threaten-
ing the upstream abutments of the
bridge on Concession 18-19. The 400
foot section of river was realigned with
the bridge structure. In addition the
banks were riprapped to prevent future
erosion.
