Phase 6 of the eight phase project in-
volves the replacement of a section of
the undersized and deteriorating
conduit. Completion of all eight phases
of the project will reduce the threat of
flooding in Listowel to one in one
hundred each year from the previous
level of one in seven.
About 85 percent of the project costs
are being covered by the Ontario Gov-
ernment. Listowel, as the benefitting
municipality, will pay the remaining
costs.
Construction of. Phase 5, completed in
January of this yearsaw three
buildings plus a small additional
structure removed on Wallace Avenue
North. The Jade Gardens Restaurant,
owned by Mr. Bill Wong, and buildings
owned by Mr. Elwood Smith are cur-
rently nearing the completion of their
reconstruction.
Phase 7 of the project is expected to
commence in 1987. It will involve
reconstruction of the conduit south of
Main Street.
Stream flows neared
Fall record high
Flood forecasting units in the Maitland
Valley watershed recorded some inter-
esting figures on rainfall,, streamflow
and levels in September. Of particular
interest is the rainstorm of September
10, 11 and 12th.
Across the watershed an average of 5-
1/2 inches of rain fell during the.
September 10th to 12th storm. The
Summerhillarea was hardest hit with
6.3 inches of rain recorded. Most of
the.rain fell in the first 24 hours of the
storm.
