Winter birds In Mrs. Bell's Grade 1 class, they have been studying all about our winter bird friends. All our "little artists" have been •drawing and making stories of their favorite birds. The "Special Me" this week is Kelly Doelman. Each "Special Me" really looks forward to getting their very own book made by the other children. Like almost everyone, most of the class have been quite sick with colds and sore throats. Hopefully, the class will get better soon. Coat books In the Grade 2 class, they have been ex- cited about the new coat hooks. They will sure make good use of them during the cold weather that IN arriving.. They are enjoying their animal centres and finding out a lot of information about their animal friends. 'On the "Special Me" board this week, the class is -looking for- ward to finding out about Matthew E. Writing stories Grade 3 have been busy writing some stories about adventure and the farm. Angela, Ethan and Danielle would like to share their stories with the readers, Milking My First Cow • By Angela Ward Once upon a time as I was going to the barn, I saw a cat with a dress on. It was purple. As I went on, I saw a dog with a tie , on, and it was orange, When I got to the barn, my cow was wearing a red sock on one foot and with the LOPS other foot, she was playing an organ. As I was milking my cow, I saw a mouse and it was singing. When I was going to pour the • milk into the jug, it turned blue, pink, red, green and purple. The next day, my cow had a calf, and it was plaid. When it was 14, it was ready for milking. So I milked it and it gave white milk, so we drank it. That is the end of mj'r story. Chased By a Pig • By Ethan MOTO One day when I was cleaning out the • pigs, all five of our sows got out. Then, our little sows got out. Then, our big hogs got out. What a day it was! Why is the government doing this? The advance payment, ap2.51 of the child tax credit, is designed to assist over 750,000 low-income families with children. Among other things, it will reduce the pressure on these families to discount their child tax credit cheque, What about the rest of ,my credit? • To receive therest of your 1986 child tax credit simply fill out the child tax credit form on your 1986 income tax return. The maximum credit per child is $454,00, up from $384,00 in 1985. And if I don't qualify for the advance payment? If you' received Family Allowance for a.child or children this year, you may still be eligible for a maximum or partial credit. To find out, simply fill out the Child Tax Credit form on your 1986 income tax return. For information See the insert in your November Family Allowance cheque or contact your nearest district taxation office. So, we finally got the horses and the pigs back in their own pens. The next .day it was the same. The next day I got killed, at least I thought I did but, it was the boar. He won't make another oink. Before that boar got killed he hit me se I had to have rabies shots for a whole year! •By Daniela Fisher One day I went to the barn, and my dad was milking the cows. He said I could milk one of the cows, so I got a pail and started to milk one of the cows, . • A few minutes later, the cow started to scratch herself with her leg, and kicked me instead. After she 'kicked me, I flew right out of the barn door, and landed in the pigs' water trough. The cow in the barn pulled herself loose, and started to run straight for me, couldn't get out of the water trough because 1 was stuck, The cow came runn- ing down and bucked me. I flew right on to the road and landed in a tree. Then, the neighbors came with their car and they saw me up in the tree. Then, they got me out of the tree and brought me home. At home,. I told them and my mom and dad the story of milking my first coweThey could hardly believe my story. • Multiplication The Grade 4 class has been working hard, sharpening their multiplication skills with many games and challenges, Their Indian studies are progressing very well. The students have formed "clans" with their own special symbol and legends. They are looking forward to an In- dian Festival next week, Environmental studies Grade 5 Environmental studies projects have.just been completed. Their next step will involve researchusing the National Geographic Series. Apple sculpture Grade 6 have been busy writing a poem or a descriptive paragraph about the apple sculpture that may someday be the head for - a doll, Watch for their poem and paragraphs in next week's news from LCPS. • "Nervous stomachs" The Grade 7 class is anxiously waiting for their report cards. This has caused•ner- vous stomachs because they have all been working hard, Grade 7 would also like to thank everyone in the •Lucknow• area for • supporting the CNIB campaign and mak- ing this worthwhile cause akSuccOs• Activity cards Grade 8 has been worjing on activity cards that help you with your nouns, verbs, etc in language arts., Due to a cold, Mrs. Clooney has not ben able to make it to school, The Grade 8 class are looking forward to seeing her soon. School band Mr. Cayley's Public School Band has been doing some hard practising for their Christmas concert, They have been prac- tising every Wednesday and Friday at noon hour. Some of the pieces that they're playing are: Byron to Joy, Christmas Medley, White Christmas and the very popular Christmas song, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. . Book Fair LCPS will be holding a Book Fair the week of November 24 to December 1 in the school main hall, The Fair, which offers a wide variety of children's books, is open during the day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Even- ing hours are 4 p.m, to 8 p.m, on December 1, Class typewriter The Kindergartens have made many delightful books all by theinselves. They now have &typewriter in their classroom and they all enjoyed typing names and other works. They opened a store centre this week and the class would like to thank the moms that saved their empty cans and Turn to nage 7
