Popular songs named for roll call
The November meeting of the St. Helens
• Women's Institute was held on Thursday,
November 6 in the hall.
The meeting was opened with the Open-
ing Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect led
by the Vice-president, Lila Rintoul in the
absence of Luba Strutton, the president.
The roll call, answered ' by naming a
popular song, brought out quite a variety
.of old and new songs.
The correspondence included an invita-
tion to a film, Journey to the Top of the
World; with Janet Foster to be shown at
the Wingham Library on November 19 at:
7:30 p.m. A letter was also received from
the Centre for the ' Homebound in
Wingham. A. motion was approved, to send
a donation to this worthy cause. The
members were reminded of the Remem-
brance Day service to be held at St. Helens
on Sunday, November 9. at 2 p.m.
After much discussion about the
washroom facilities at the hall, a commit-
tee was named to investigate the best
system suitable for new washrooms in the
hope that the outside work can be done
soon. The fund for this project was started
by a donation from one of the institute
members. •
The annual potluck supper for the com-
munity will be .held on November 24.
The program for the meeting included
"Minutes of Yesteryear 1964", prepared
and read by Celia Aitchison, a history of
St. Helen's prepared.by Janet MacPherson
and read by Edith Cooper, and a Remem-
brance Day poem read by Agnes Lyons.
All enjoyed a sing -song led by Norma
Raynard. A contest for the most words
contained in "Remembrance Day" was
won by Isabel Gaunt. Each member
brought a .treasure from Grandma's attic.
which made a most interesting .display
from a hand -made boot jack to a tiny case
containinga thimble.
The meeting closed with 0 Canada anda
lunch served by Agnes Lyons and Norma
Raynard.. •
