Lancers open with win, tie
Well, it's that time of year again when
the leaves are falling, the cornis off, the
ball gloves are neatly tucked away, and
one can hear the slap of frozen rubber off
the glass in the arena.
The Lancers are no exception, and can
hit the glass with the best of them. But,
after two games it appears that several of
the players canhit the net as well..
Lancers - Lions Head?
The Lancers played their season opener
in Lions Head last week and came up with
a 7-7 tie after rebounding from a 3-0 deficit
in the first period. Larry MacPherson led
the Lancer attack with four goals while
Steve MacPherson, Kevin Clark and Rod
Simpson added one each.
Dean Lindsay played a strong game in
the net for the locals and robbed Lions
Head, of several good scoring
opportunities.
Lancers 7 - Durham 6
Sunday night in the "Forum", the
Durham 72's rolled into town and, once
again, the Lancers fell behind 3-0 after one
period of play. Art Clark muscled his way
into the action in the second period and
brought the Lancers to within one goal as
he beat the. Durham netminder twice.
Durham then scored two of their• own to
end the second 5-2.
The Lancers carne out flying in the se-
cond period scoring five times while Ray
Guay held Durham to just one goal for a 7-6
come -from -behind victory. Brad Hum-
phrey tapped in the winner late in the
game for his second goal of the night.
Steve MacPherson had two and Paul
Hamilton rounded out the scoring for the
Lancers.
With several new players on the team, it
seems appropriate to have a "meet the
players" column in the upcoming write-
ups so the readers will know who is doing
the scoring.
Meet the coach
But first, let's meet the backbone of the
team: the coach. Greg Hamilton fills this
category and brings with him that winning
attitude in leading his troops to victory.
Greg hopes to mix some hard-hitting and
fast -skating . for some good "old-style
hockey. As for the race for the cup, Greg
hopes the Lancers can win at home, tie on
the road, and beat Ripley all the time as
the season progresses.
The Lancers, host Durham in Lucknow
next Friday night for a re -match of Sun-
day's game.
House leaguers tie first game
against Wingham team
Lucknow travelled to Wingham on
November 1 for their first game ofthe
season with the game ending in a 1-1 tie.
Lucknow 1- "Wingham 1
The first period was scoreless as both
teams appeared to get `off to a slow start.
In the second period, Wingham's Mike -Tif-
fin scored on an assist from Magee and '
Welch to give them a 1-0 lead.
Lucknow promptly tied the game on a
goal from Chris Humphrey assisted by'
