Mrs. Macintyre's Resource Centre has
been very busy this week as many of the
children are looking for Hallowe'en books
and tapes,
The Grade 1 chickadees did a research
project called "Signs of Fall". They found
six facts in a• book entitled Changing
Seasons.
Don't forget to visit your public library
as it is National Library Week.
HallOwe'en activities
Mrs. Bell's Grade 1 class has completed
their centres and are working on
Hallowe'en activities this week. They are
also reading and making scary stories and
pictures.
The class has also made up some good
Hallowe'en songs and their pumpkins will
be ready to turn into Jack -o -Lanterns soon.
Sean is the "Special Me" for Hallowe'en
week.
Reading stories
Mrs. Black's Grade 2 class enjoyed
reading 'the story called Trouble on the
Ark. With all the rain Lucknow has had,
they thought they might have to build an
•ark, too.
The class has also been putting their
Hallowe'en thoughts together to make
some brainstorming charts. They've come
up with some spooky ideas.
At the listening centre, they have en-
joyed Lucus Thacker's story called Billy
Joe Jive.
"Cousin Willie"
"Cousin Willie" the scarecrow in ,Mrs.
Campbell's Grade 3 plass is having a very
busy time. The Grade three's 'even find
him checking for .nice tidy desks and giv-
ing out treats.
This is the last week for selling
pomanders and what great salespeople the
Grade.3 class turned out to be.
Hallowe'en is fast approaching and the
Grade 3 class has enjoyed painting
"spooky" pictures on newspaper.
Scary masks . .
V you are frightened by some strange
-creatures this Hallowe'en, it may by
Grade 4 'Wearing masks they made in art
class,
This week, the Grade 4 students have
been enjoying Hallowe'en reading centres.
They, have begun Pumpkin Science and
are learning about the vegetable family
Cucurbitaceae. • .

Mr. Bennett's Grade 5 class has started
independent work in the SRA newslab
series. The Grade 5 class is also improving
on their chair tipping problem:

' Corn study
Mr. discovered the difference between
miniature Indian popcorn and regular In-
dian corn. On Thursday, they pulled back
the husks and hung them in clusters of five
for seasonal deeoration in the class.
The Grade 6, class also had to imagine
that they were the captain of a pirate
crewship. They had to write a "want ad"
to get a crew to help work on the ship. Ac-
cording to Joel Sutton, these men had to be

courageous, strong, young, adventurous
and had to have some experience at
plundering,ships at sea.
Novel study.
Mr. McKeon's Grade 7 class are wrapp-
ing up the leftovers of their novel study,
Jack London's Call of the Wild. Many
students will -be reading the followup
novel, White Fang to see what happens to
Buck, the adventurous dog.
Book work
The Grade 8 class is busy working on
their books. They are going to be added to
the list of "great" authors. Some incredi-
ble work is being completed and they are
anxious to finish so they can share their
work with the other classes.
Last week, the Grade 4 and Grade 8
classes were rewarded for their good,
behavior. Both classes met in the am-
phitheatre to have a bubble blowing
contest.
After many tries with the sticky gum,
the Grade 4 class, unfortunately, beat the
Grade 8 class.
Soccer
Last week, the boys' soccer team went to
Walkerton for the Bruce County . Soccer
finals after winning the regional cham-
pionship at Kincardine.
The boys played a competitive game
against Port Elgin, but were eliminated..
Congratulatons to the team for a suc-
cessful season. •
"Exciting week"
The Kindergartens .have had a exciting
week. Many of the .children made their
very own scary book and printed the
Hallowe'en words by themselves. .
Together, the Kindergartens are making
a big book called Black Witch, Black Witch.

Ghosts and Jack -o -Lanterns have been
made to decorate the room for Hallowe'en.
Band activities •
The Lucknow Central Public School Con-
cert Band has been busy practising for the
Remembrance Day service at the.
cenotaph.
On Wednesday afternoon, the band had a
visitor from Outer, Space. The creature
joined in with the clarinet section and once
the band heard it squeek, they realized it
. was Mr. Pike, our principal.
- The band is glad to have Mr. Pike with
them, and they hope he comes back again
soon.
• Scout presentation
Grades 1 to 4 are looking forward to the
upcoming scout presentation at the school.
Pinecrest visit
. The schoolis looking forward to going to
Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home for
Hallowe'en to show the costumes, off.

Teenage stress discussed
Mrs. Roely de Boer hosted the Kinloss
Kairshea Curator's meeting at the 'In-
stitute Hall on October 23.
Mrs. Robert Gilchrist presided and
welcomed the members and guests. She
read a poem and opened the meeting with
the Opening Ode and the Collect. .
The minutes of the last meeting were
read and the treasurer's report was given.
Kairshea WI will cater to some of the Lions
Club dinners this year. The "At Home"
evening was discussed and the members
agreed to hold it on the first Siturday pf
November.
Convenor reports were giyen. Mrs. Gor-
don Wall reported that teenagers are ex-
periencing more stress in their lives now
than ever before. Parental pressure to ex-
cel in sports and academics, increase in
• violent TV programs, and availability of
drugs and alcohol are the worst offenders,
according to psychiatrists,

Matthews entertained the ladies with a
charming skit. Mrs. Gilchrist led the
ladies in a sing -song of old-fashioned '
songs.
Mrs. MacKenzie introduced the even-
ing's guest speaker, Mr. Lorne Sparks.
Mr. Sparks gave an interesting talk on how'
and why he, became an antique dealer, He
told of many amusing and interesting in-
cidents that he experienced over the years
with his customem The members enjoyed
hearing the background information on the
antique articles Mr. Sparks exhibited.
The roll call was "bring an antique or
collectible". Mr. Sparks kindly gave the
members information on their antiques
and collectibles. Mrs. Matthews thanked
the speaker.
Mrs. Cliff Roulston organized a contest
on the history of the Kinloss area.. Mrs.
Frank MacKenzie gave the courtesies and
the meeting closed with 0 Canada. The,
directors, Mrs. Ira Diekie and Mrs. -
Clarence Ritchie, served a tasty lunch.
