Why do you smoke? Is at fun? Do you do it to be part of the gang? 'o you enjoy breathing dangerous chem1c is into your lungs then exhaling to con ; mrninate everyone else's dean air? If there are no answers to these ques- tions, then why bother? It is just a waste of money and a hazard to your health and to the health of others. I know a lot of people who smoke and it bothers .me to think of how many of those people .could die because of .diseases caus- ed by smoking. My father tells me that smoking causes no pain compared to that Teachers' workshop was successful e Dear Editor, The Ontario Public School Teachers' Federation - Huron wants the residents of Huron County to know of the tremendous Professional Development Day held on Oc- tober 24 in Exeter. The theme was "Agriculture in the Classroorn".• It dealt with the easily obtained resources available for teachers to use with their agriculturally related curriculum topics. Many commodi- ty groups participated to answer numerous questions from teachers wishing current information. Jack Wilkinson, representing the Ontario federation of Agriculture, talked of stress on the farm and of what teachers should be aware and how they can help their students. A Huron County bountiful lunch was prepared by the Huron South District Women's institute to illustrate the quantity and wide variety of crops grown by our far- ming neighbours. This same group presented four Agri -Kits to the Huron Coun- ty Board of Education. These materials are fully prepared to be used in classrooms and were well received by teachers. Jack Rid- dell, Ontario Agriculture Minister .spoke of the impact agriculture has on our world and addressed the challenges facing the farming sector. He did feel there is a future in farm- ing and felt teachers with the task of making our next :generation more aware of the food industry and becoming informed consumers of food products. The teachers' federations supported and helped organize the day along with the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, Huron South District Women's Institute, On-. tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food - Huron County Office and the Huron County Board of Education. OPSTF-Huron as one of those sponsors feels special recognition must be pucl tally paid to numerous donors and exhibitors who made the . day so. successful. So, a new rural courier every five years. Good-bye dependable, friend -of -the - family, through rain, sleet and snow, rural mail courier, Yours' Truly, Mrs. Anne I. Pritchard (Mail Box Mamma) of drugs or drinking. I admit that «; ugs and .alcohol cause a°lot of pain to many famrnilies, :tut, isn't there pain if someone dies of Cancer because they were a smoker? I get very angry when my friends or my father picks up a cigarette. I bother them about it but they think I am kidding and blow the smoke in my face. It is no joke and it is hard for me to prove I am serious. What do I have to do to show people that I care about what happens to them? I know people who don't ordinarily smoke who will go to a party and, smoke just because everyone else is doing it. Half of those people don't even like smoking but I,ucknow SentLQll9 Wei n esday, Octebeal 299 11984 --Page 5 Why do you smoke? they do it to be part of the crowd and they don't want to be left out. Why risk your health to be part of e gang? There are many more ways to become pop ' i ar without smoking. Think of us noxa -smokers, Do you think we like breathing in that stuff? Second- hand smoke is just as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than what you are inhal- ing. How would you feel if someone close to you died because they breathed in your second-hand smoke? Doesn't that bother you, even if just \a little? So if you are sitting there, smoking a cigarette right now, think about everything I have written. If you don't take TO me seriously then that is your fault. But please think about it. Think about your health and the health of others around you. Please don't smoke. The risks are not worth it.
