L-nkin Motors
Lankin Motors, owned by Dennis
Lankin(Denny), leas comae a long way since
119ra when Dewy and his father Vince
bought the small business on Broadway. .
Thirty-one years latero the Pontiac, .3 ick
and. GRIC dealership has physically expand
ed three times and has gon0from a stock of
two Porntiacs, two Buick and two GMC
truck to over 30 new cars and trucks.
The staff has also seen a significant in-
crease
crease from four employeesin 1955 to a staff
of about 17 today who are more than willing
to care for all their customer's sales and
service needs.
"We service everything including
mechanical as well as body work...we've 31.
years of servicing in this area behind us,"
Denny said.
Lankin's will be featuring some of their
merchandise in the upcoming Wheels 87 car
show to be held Oct. 9 on the arena pad and
part of Lambton Street from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Jeff Byles, sales manager for Lankin
Motors, says the show is an excellent oppor-
tunity for people to see all kinds of vehicles
(Mike Walsh Chev-Olds and Montgomery
Ford Mercury will also be showing vehicles)
without feeling they are committed to buy or
test drive in the same way that they feel
committed when they come into a
dealership.
•
Feel free to browse at the show
"They can freely browse without feeling
they are required to buy," he said.
Although :last year's show Preview 86 did
generate sales for Lankin's, Mr. Byles said
selling cars isn't really the point of the show.
"It's nice if you sell, , but it's more to
motivate interest in the new cars," he said.
As far as prices of the new cars go, Mr.
Lankin said there really won't be that much
of a difference between the three dealers in
the show.
line
each dealer will be competing
1S1Snee forline," he said.
Tradition often plays an important part in
buying cars„ and you'll have people who will
buy only Pontiac as opposed to a Ford and
vice versa, Mr. Byles said.
Lankin Motors will be putting about a
dozen brand, spanking new vehicles in the
show and highlighting this exhibition will be
a GMC Triple E Designer Conversion van
complete with every convenience, gadget
and luxury imaginable—four captain's
chairs, chesterfield bed, indirect lighting,
air conditioning, cruise, individual lighting,
stereo, air conditioning, tilt,' power windows
and locks, etc.
The van sells at about $30,000 to start plus.
Other models to watch for from Lankin's
include a Buick Riviera Park Avenue(top of
the line luxury car), a Le Sabre, a Sunbird
GT, a loaded mini -van, and a GMC pick-up
truck.
Mr. Ryles said cars coming out this year
are marked by the effects of high tech.
"For instance", he said, "our Riviera has
a touch sensitive screen similar to a TV
screen which acts as a control panel for
gauges, radio, air conditioning, etc.
"Instead of pressing buttons, you touch
the screen," he said.
