The group will seek to purchase space at the Teeswater Fair for an information booth* Local people continue to picket the illegal. Morgentaler and Scott abortion clinics in Toronto. Members were asked to encourage others to join In the picketing. Considerable discussion revolved around Health Minister Murray Elston's naming Dr. Marion Powell to look at how the province can provide better access to abortions. Dr. Powell, director of the Bay Centre for Birth Control. in Toronto (a •centre which does abortion referrals), has been actively involved in organizing the movement for abortion on demand from as far back as 1972. It would appear that she brings to this investigation a firm bias for abortion on demand* (The 1969 amend- ments to the Criminal Code decriminalized abortion only under strict circumstances one of which was that the health of the mother is threatened). The group strongly disapproves of Mr. Elston's action. Education Chairperson, Sally Campeau, • reported having spoken to grades 7 and & in two local elementary schools and to a women's group in Winghani. The "Silent Scream" and "Abortion: Bow It Is" were showii at these presentations. Mrs, Cam- peAu encouraged the group by telling them that they bad chosen vefl when they chose to serve society through the pro-life move- ment. "There are many injustices in Tour , society," she said, "but the greatest of these is the killing of certain members, our brothers and sisters. The most basic right s of man is the right to life, upon which all other rights depend. Keep up your efforts to defend the dignity of ,man. ' The meeting closed with prayer. 4 • "7.,""x`fe:,,o,•:•; :44 w/T..;40V. ' • • .4f.,..§% 41,/, e5: • LUCKNOW DISTRICT COMMUNITY CENTRE OPEN DATES AVAILABLE NOVEMBER Friday 7 140. 24.
