47. Cord of thanks
. GIBSON
We would like to use the words of Eleanor
Fiock to express our appreciation to those
who shared with uS in thoughts, word and
deed those difficult times during Rod's
lness and death.
Friendship is a precious word,
We treasure it with care;
Life without our special friends
Would be forlorn and bare,
Friends, like garden flowers, grow
From seed and bud and bloom
Within the garden of the heart
a chosen corner room.
Without our daily thoughts they live
,Surrounded by our love.
Friends, like garden flowers,
Are gifts from heaven above.

Big opening for fall fair
BY AB WYLDS
The big opining work bee for the Ripley
Huron fall fair was held on Monday evening
September 22 in three different places.
These were the Arena in the Ripley Huron
Complex in the nearby Knox Shed - now the
property of Ripley Agriaultural Society and
oiA the adjoining Memorial Park (the ball
diamond) for fencing. Incidentally another
meeting was held in the upstairs auditorium
at the Complex.
For the Auditorium meeting the first per-
son to arrive was Ripley Councillor Martin
Phelan and then Archie Gillies the
Economic Development Counnissioner for
South Bruce Lakeihore from Port Elgin.
This writer was there before them. We were
waiting for the custodian, Helen Grubb to
unlock the front entrance of the Complex.
We tried to get the names of the folks com-
ing to the work bee for the Ripley Huron
Agricultural Society in order of arrival. It
worked for the first few, but after that it was
impossible as they went directly to the shed
or to fencing. And we had to go to get the
parts of the grain stand from their storage'
under the . arena seats where they were
stored since the 1985 fair. VVe understand
that Ripley Figure Skating Club and the
Ripley Ag. Society share this storage by
having paid for the cement floor in there a
few years ago.
The next to arrive was custodian Mrs.
Helen Grubb and daughter Miss Barbara
Grubb what would we do without Helen, her
husband Ralph, and their family in times
like this past weekend?
