Mrs. Clarke's grade 3 class has been ex-
ploring balloons thus month.
In :balloon experiments they learned that
air has weight, and they also learned how to
"predict".
They've written balloon stories and
they've eaten balloons (well...cookie
balloons! ).
They're now exploring trees with eight
tree centres.
They've also been introducing each other.
Last week we introduced David Adams, and
this week its Simone Bleeker's turn.
New authors
Mrs. Worsell's grade 5 class has written
two books ,called "How to Feed a Kid" and
,.How to Fred a Monster."
It would take a very innovative. cook to
prepare some of those menus!
Sports at Brookside
The 50 kin club started Tuesday
September 23. Interest is high for this club
at Brookside. There are so many people par-
ticipating that you can just follow the crowd
to find the track! •
The junior and senior soccer houseleagues
are underway however the rain seems to be
limitinglhe number of games played.
Students are trying out for the soccer
teams for the tournament in early October.
V.I.P. Studies
Mrs. Tebbutt's grade 6 class has begun a
program called V.I.P. - Values, Influence
and Peers. This program is run in conjunc-
tion with the OPP officer, Constable John
Marshall and the Grade 6 classrooms
teachers.
"Our Tree
Miss Mathers' grade 1 have been discuss-
ing "Fall, a Time 'of Change." They made
colourful • leaf prints and they have
decorated their classroom tree.
"Our Tree" is a special tree which they
have adopted from Alton's bush.
During the year, they will be doing ac-
tivities around their classroom tree. They
love "Our Tree!"
Research words, nature
Mrs. Ottewell's grade 3 class is •learning
alphabetical order and dictionary skills in
the library with Mrs. Blake.
Mrs. Scott's grade 4 is doing ``Take 45"
research on plants or animals of the
"Fencerow Comunity."
Book sale
Plans are underway to have a new book
sale on October 9 and 10. Proceeds will be
used to buy exciting new books for our
library collection.

Lots of exciting activities are going on at
Lucknow Central this week.
The Kindergarten class is learning the
different colours and making their own
books:
In grade 1 this week, the Special Me is
Kasen, They have been doing many group
activities such as reading and watching
"Special "Person" movies.
Grade 2 planted their vegetable garden
on Friday, September 19 and it was up .on
Monday September 22. The children had a
vegetable tasting contest and the celery
won. They took a trip to Bain's and
Knechtel's grocery stores on Wednesday
September 24.
The grade 3 class had two 1Vlonarch but-
terfly crystals in their classroom. " When
the crystals hatched they all went outside
and let them fly off. After the class carne
back , in, they made Monarch butterflies
out of orange tissue paper and black con-
struction paper.
The grade 4 class is writing a Someday
Book, They had their class picture taken
with. Aunt Agetha the puppet. They are
also studying the Canadian Provinces. ,Lit-
tle animals such as a mouse, have been
visiting them.
The Grade :r Blass has been very busy
reading books and studying regions of
Canada.
The grade 6 class has been spending
most of their free time on the Icon Com-
puters. Many have also joined the drama
club. They were successful in the Fall Fair
winnings.
The grade 8 boys and girls Family
Studies class is making a quilt. The other

Mrs. Allen's grade 7 students are well into
an Integrated Unit on "humour". Groups
have been organized and centras have been
established.
Other activities
Friday is Hot Dog Day, the first of many! !
Each Wednesday, our class travels to Vic-
toria Public School to participate in Family
Studies and Industrial Arts Activities. The
students are enjoying their afternoon in
Goderich.
Senior Choir at . Brookside has begun.
Each day 1, grade 7 and 8 students meet
with Mrs. Jewitt in the gym at 12:50 pnr.
Mrs. Ottewell will be occompanying this
choir.
Junior Choir will begin next week with
Mrs. Worsell as director, and Mrs. Jewitt
accompanying. This choir will be made up
of grades 4, 5, 6 students.
Primary Choir will be directed by Mrs.
Clarke and accompanied by Mrs. Young.
Look for us at concert time!
On Friday, September 26 there was an
assembly to hear speeches from candidates
for Students Council.
Candidates were as follows:
President: Dorean Diebold, Darryl Gib-
son, Dennis Park, Clint Thomson.
Vice - President: Ruth Anne Bakker,
Nathan Daer, Joyce McWhinney, Melanie
Wylds.
Treasurer: Trevor Cook, Tricia Mac-
Donald, Paddy McCann, Matthew Sproul.
Secretary: Rhonda Dickson, • Debbie
Nivins, Matthew Strawbridge, Randy
Suffern.
Those elected to make up the Student's
Council for 1986-87 are President Darryl
Gibson; vice - president Melanie Wylds;
treasurer Matthew Sproul; and secretary
Debbie Nivins.
Class representatives are: grade 7, Tanya
Hodges; grade 8, Andrew Glenn; grade 6,
Keith Todd; grade 6, Chris MacDonald;
grade 5, Doug Culbert; grade 4 and 5, Diane
Ross; grade 4, Karen Storey"

on the Student Council executive,

making books
half of the grade 8 class is enjoying In-
dustrial Arts tremendously!
The boys soccer team has been practis-
ing very hard. The final cuts have been
'made and they are raring to go.
The crossmcountry team is working well.
They only have two more weeks to prepare
for the cross-country meet. The juniors
and seniors are running very well.
The resource centre has been a very
busy place this past week. Grade 8 classes
are working hard on their ehildrens
literature unit.
The library has three boxes of books
from the Young Authors Conference at
Walkerton. These books will be travelling
to all the schools in Bruce County before
returning to their owners. Students are
also able to see many different ways a
book is created.
The Lucknow Central Band played on
September 20 at the Lucknow Fall Fair
and are already practising for Remem.

Our school has recently been given the
privilege of using seven Icon computers
for three weeks. All the students in the
school will get "a chance on them. So the
Icon's are very 'busy and the students in
the school are enjoying them.
The grade classes are raising money for
their graduation trip. They will be willing
to do oddjobs for Lucknow and area
residents. If you wish to hire a student call
the school at 528-3113.
School open house is Wednesday October
1 from 7:30-8:00 pm. Parents and friends in
the Community are welcome to come and
review our new facilities and computers.
