A lot of time was spent planning and preparing our float for the fall fair. The theme of the float was "Lucknow's High on Education." Our work was worth it asthe float placed t lyd. The Grade 8 class was busy working on their games and make-up booth. And, of course, the band was busy practicing, marching and, playing for the parade. Fair "Roaring Success" Fair Day was a roaring success for the Grade 8 class. They made $187. at their game and makeup booth. Some of the games included: Bowling, Bean Bag Toss, Ring Toss, Hockey Shoot, Nail Drive and two guessing games. Mr. Dave Black won the Nail Drive with only two pounds. Bernice Glenn's guess of 400 jelly. beans was closest to the actual number of 493. Another winner, Heather Steer, guessed the time closest to the hour and minute on the watch. A digital watch was unwrapped and showed a time of 8:. Heather won the watch with her guess of 8:00. Special thanks goes to Hamilton's Fuels, Lucknow Variety and Goods and to the Holyrood General Store for donations. Congratulations are extended to Mr. race Skillen for his co=ordination of an excellent fair. Also, L.C.P.S. Grade 8 class thanks the Agricultural Society for the use of booth space at the fair grounds. oth the girls and boys tug-of-war teams were victorious in their,attempts to bring the plaque back to LCPS. Each . team donated their winnings to the Grade 3 Ot- tawa Trip. Their delight was further in- creased when the "18 and under" tug-of- war team also donated their winnings to the trop. Thanks a million guys, Pattern books The Grade One pupils are busy making pattern books. Their "Look, Look, What Do You See " book was a hit with the Grade 8 students who are studying Brookside bursting at seams Brooksideis 'starting off the 1986/87 year bursting at the seams with about 380 students and two portable classrooms. We welcome two new teachers to the staff this year - Bonnie Jewitt teaching music and Special Education Grades 4-8 and Rod Culp who teaches a Grade 4-5 classroom. Grade 7 and 8 are taking Family Studies -at Victoria School in Goderich one after- noon a week and seem to be quite en- thusiastic about the new venture. Ruth Alton and Debbie Culbert are teaching piano lessons at Brookside. Grade 1, Room 5 have been doing a unit on Pets, talking about their various pets, drawingpictures of them and learning col- our words in the process. Grade 2 started the Impressions reader, "East of the Sun". _ Mrs. Young's Grade 12, class has been studying safety at home and • at school, painting pictures'and making booklets. (1;'0 BROOKSIDE Miss Clynick is asking for entrants in a school crest contest this week. There are three divisions. Grade 7 end 8; Grades 4-6 and Grades 1-3. In each division three prizes will be awarded. Out of the three. first prizes the "school crest" will be chosen. The "50 km Club" starts this week in preparation for the Cross Country Run later in the fall. Soccer 'House League has started . with -four. senior and •four junior terns. • School team soccer practices have started to.get ready for Soccer Tournament during the week of October 6: g Married couple congratulated Congratulations to Sherri Carter and Jonathon Vad Camp as they were married on -Saturday--Sept: 20 in ; the Lucknow United Church. The reception was held in the Wingham Legion. • , Vivin and Cuyler Ramoge of Wisconsin U.S.A. visited over the weekend with Bob Purves and took in the Lucknow Fall Fair. The Grade 8 class especially enjoyed visiting the Kindergarten class who read their very own book called "1 ]Like r\ ed". The Grade 2 "icicle Pickles" are now finished and taste great. They each got a jar to take home and are now working on adi ]ng factsup to 10. Grade 4 has read over 130 books since the beginning of September. They have made "A Perfect ay" book and are work- ing on a new one. Besides that they are stu- dying famous authors, as well as the geography of Canada. Grade 6 students have attempted to guess the weight of several vegetables. It is tougher than it sounds. Stratford Play Mr. McKeon has booked 40 of the best seats available in Stratford for a Shakespearean,play called "Cymbeline". This is to take place October 15. Forty of the Grade 7 and 8's are looking forward to this. Twenty senior students were chosen as bus monitors and were trained Thursday, September 18 at the workshop held in Kin- cardine. They learned how to use a fire ex- tinguisher and a C.B. in case of emergen- cy. Also rules, first aid, and exits, were among the subjects studied. Mr. Pike attended a computer workshop on Monday, September 15 in preparation for the arrival of a lab of eight I CON com- puters. They arrived last Thursday and we will be able to keep them for the next month. They are powerful 512K memory computers which will offer the students a whole new avenue of learning. School picture day was. yesterday. Everyone looked.great.
