On Tuesday, September 9, the ladies of
the UCW of the Pine River United Church
gathered at the church. There were 26 of
them.
They then went by car up to Port Elgin
where they had a smorgasbord lunch at the
Lake Shore Racquet Club.
When lunch was over, it was on to
Southampton to the Saugeen Indian
Reserve. In the amphitheatre they were
met by Rev. Barbara MclVtath, the minister
of the church:
The ladies saw a little of the lovely
flowers and gardens, and later had a short
program where the Indians hold their
'outside services.
The president, Mrs. Delbert Wilson was
present. The short meeting was opened by
the singing of .a hymn.
The ' conveners, Phyllis Elliott and
Thelma Godfrey, then took over, The Bible

The minutes of the last meeting (in lune)
were read by Ann Boyd Mrs. Wilson
closed the meeting with prayer.
The ladies then entered the church
where Reverend. McMath showed 'slides
and told of many things which take place
on the reservation.
It was disappointing that there was not
any of the Indian women in attendance.
The slides were informative and it was
encouraging to hear of the many things
that" are planned for the reserve. It is also
gratifying to know the Indians, if given a
chance, can make things work.
