The leader, Grace Gibson, chaired the meeting with Edith Webster on the piano for the hymns pertaining to the theme "har}Test". Grace Gibson read a suitable poem. The minutes were read and approved and the roll call answered with a Biblical verse containing the word "harvest". The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Deanna Reavie and the offering was received and dedicated. The birthday jar received donations from two birthdays, namely, Mrs. Al Irwin and Mrs. Wes Ritchie. Reports from several committees were given, and Mrs. Shirley Bolt reported there is two weeks left for donations of articles to Goodwill. Mrs. Goodhue read an article, which proved very .interesting, pertaining to the Lord's Prayer. There will be an executive meeting September 9 and a general meeting September 23, both at 8. p.m. in the church, with the stewardship committee in charge: The devotional part of the meeting was chaired by Mrs. Lawrence McLeod. She read a poem and followed with a scripture reading. The meditation was given . by Edna MacDonald referring to "harvest" by farmers, but reminding us all as to how we should prepare for our "harvest"- as we live each day. A reading was given by Mrs. Treleaven, followed by several musical numbers by Edith Webster and Jean Conley. Mrs. McLeod read from the Mandate on the Native Indians, followed by Edith Webster with another reading, A . quiz on Canada was conducted by Mrs, McLeod, after which`she "thanked' her many helpers. Grace was sung and a - dainty lunch served. Unit 2 By Mrsi Eldon Bradley Unit 2 niet at the home of. Mrs. Alex Hackett on Tuesday, 'September 2 with 11 members present. Mrs. Bradley presided anad opened with a reading. Following the caul to worship everyone sang oneverse of a .hymn, followed by a prayer for the students and teachers returning to school. The minutes were read by Mrs. Clarence Greer and . approved. The roll call was answered with a Bible verse with the'word. "Home". The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Alex Hackett.Three September birthdays added toads to the birthdayjar. Several get well cards and one birthday card were signed for members. The offering was taken and dedicated. The unit is respon- sible for flowers in the church' this month. Followingbrief committee areparts, Mrs, Bradley gave the announcements. The executive meeting will be held.. on Sept- ember 9 and the general"' , Meeting is changed to September 23. The bus trip is to Cape Croker on September 29, with some seats still available.: Anyone who max► still wish to go are asked te'contact Mrs. Glen Walden.. The theme of the meeting was "The Home", with the scripture read by Mrs. Hackett. Another hyinn was sung. Mrs. Mathers gave the devotions. She said family unity cannot exist without a close communication between all members of a family. Another , hymn was sung followed by a reading by Mrs. Eldon Henderson. Mrs. Albert Cook gave a newspaper account of the 1986 General Council at Sudbury,, regarding the apology to the Indians by the Moderator Robert Smith. She also gave an appropriate reading, Mrs. Bradley thanked the hostess and the committee in charge of the program. The closing hymn was sung and Mrs, Hackett gave the closing prayer. The Grace was sung_ and a social hour was enjoyed" : as the committee served, refreshments. Unit 3 The September meeting of Unit 3 was held on September 2 in the Fellowship Room of the Church. The theme for the meeting was "Heritage". Mrs, Glen Walden, leader, welcomed all and read a few verses from Psalm 16 on the theme. Mrs. Charles McDonald opened the program with a reading n ur spiritual heritage. We pass on our faith to following generations, Promises are given in Genes- is. No other promises are necessary except those given in the Bible. Everyone joined in the singing of a hymn.. Mrs. Clarence Irwin gave a reading which referred to our national heritage which` has been founded on the Bible, Miss Peggy . Gordon read another hymn. Mrs. Ross Shiells also gave a reading. Mrs. McDonald quoted a number of Bible passages on preserving our heritage. Mrs:. Walden read a peper on The Golden, Rule. Miss Gordon had Biblical references on the word "heritage", ' 'a ' gift from someone - God. Another hymn was sung, Mrs. McDonald read a poem "Back to School'. The roll. call, was answered by 12 members with an item about Native People not included in the study: The minutes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. Shiells in the absence of the" secretary. The offering was received and dedicated. The business was conducted and announce- ments made. Mrs. Walden read a poem and thanked all those who had taken part. The Mizpah Benediction closed the meeting. All enjoyed a social time. Unit 4 Unit 4 of Lucknow United Church Women met on Tuesday, September 2 in the church fellowship room. Following a delicious pot -luck supper, the committee of Mrs. Bryce Elliott, Mrs. Lloyd Whytock, Mrs. Margaret Black and Mrs, George Whitby, took charge of the program. Mrs. Elliott presided And opened with a: poeni, A.,hynur was suni0011 oked.b►y - the 'reading of scripture passages . and a meditation -on each by Mrs. ' Whitby .and Mrs, Black. , Mrs. Bert Moffat and. Mrs. Jean Conley favoured with some pleasing musical numbers, Mrs. Margaret Black introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Margaret Ferguson wh is Area Four Co-ordinator for the Bruce Presbyterial. She capably told us of her duties in this office and gave us some insight into proposed changes under the leadership of Anne Squire, our new Moderator. The offering was received by • Mrs. Whytock and dedicated by Mrs. Elliott. This portion of the meeting was closed with a hymn followed by prayer. Mrs. Harold Greer conducted the business and opened with a poem. She announced that the executive meeting will be on September 9 and the general meeting, in charge of the stewardship committee, will be an September 23. .The, roll call was answered by 24 members with `How I spent my vacation". Mrs. George McBride volunteered to fill .the position of Supply and Social Service as Mrs. Charles Davies has. moved away. Mrs. Cliff Crawford reported for Com- munity Friendship. Mrs. Lloyd Whytock reported for social functions and Mrs. Allan Gibson reminded the members of the fast -approaching fowl supper and asked everyone to help wherever possible. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Ken Cameron. The mizpah benediction closed a most interesting meeting. Historical • society to meet The September meeting of the Bruce County Historical Society will be held in Col- poy's Bay Women's Institute Hall on Thurs- day, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. Sheila Gatis will speak on "Trials and Tribulations of Writing a Book". All members and friends are welcome. The LLCMS. annual meeting and banquet will be in the Elmwood Community Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The speaker, Peter Rupreeht of Toronto and Grey Co., will tell about "German Immigration into Bruce County". The banquet is by advance ticket. No tickets will be sold at the door.
