Holyrood WI ladies enjoy
Blyth Theatre's Cake Walk
Tho Holyrood Institute ladies enjoyed
the summer trap to the Blyth • Theatre on
Thursday for the matinee "The Cake
Walk",
Mr. and Mrs. Don Christensen of 'Milton
spent the holiday weekend here at the
Pentecostal Manse with his parents, Pastor
and Mrs. M. Christensen. Janine, who had
spent the summer holidays here with her
grandparents, returned home to Milton on
Monday with her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson visited with
Mr. and'Mrs, Harold Siessor of Tiverton.
Mr. Harry Wall of Lucknow visited on
Saturday with Mr. Arthur Haldenby.
Mrs, Pearl Lloyd of London and Mr, and
Mrs. Ivan Lloyd visited on Saturday with
Edna .and May Boyle. Jean and Ivan were
guests at the Graham -Hodgson wedding at
Kincardine. Mrs. Agnes Hodgins was also
a .wedding , guest,
• Mrs. Audrey Borthwick of St. Catharines
spent a few . days. with Mr, and Mrs. Jack •
Hodgins and Mtn. Agnes Hodgins.
• Mrs. Joe Ernest was :rushed to Walker-
• ton hospital" where she underwent emerg-
. ency surgery. We send our best wishes for
a quick recovery.
On Sunday, August 31 a delightful
• surprise 75th birthday srnergasbord dinner
for Mrs. Bertha. Haldenby was held at the
home of Mr, and Mrs. Fred Friendorf,
Jason and Jennifer, concession 10 or
Culross. All of her family and sons and.
daughters-inlaw, grandchildren and great
grandchildren met in her honor, not only'
for the lovely, dinner, but a lovely family
happy. time. They,.. presented Mrs,. Halden-
by with a lovely color. TV to enjoy, with all.
their love.. Bertha was so shockingly sur-
prised, but so very thankful toeveryone for
remembering her in this' special way on her
birthday.
Happy belated birthday Bertha from all
your many friends too.
Holyrood WI
The Holyrood Women's Institute met on
Thursday evening : at the hall whenthey
had as their guest speaker Mrs.. Janet
Qoldspink from the Women's I'ouse of
Bruce County at Kincardine.
She explained the work there and
showed a film entitled Jeannie. This was a
touching story of family violence and emo-
tional stress on both the mother and
children who• were forced to leave home.
But it is comforting to know that there ale
places where love. is extended and the.
needed care given. There was a question
and answer period which was . well
responded • to.
Mrs. William MacPherson welcomed
and thanked Mrs. Goldspinkand presented
her with a -gift to help with the work there
and also shared some of the food with her.
It was an entertaining evening and
guests were present from Lucknow, Ripley,
Whitechurch,Purple Grove,Silver Lake
and Kairshea.
• Program numbers were a musical
selection by Mrs. Jean Tiffin of White-
church. A humorous reading by Miss
Elizabeth Robinson of Lucknow; also a
Rev Robert Shaw of Waterloo visited
recently with Lorraine and Bill MacPher-
fi
son of Holyrood.
humorous reading by Mrs. Amelia Cum-
ming from the Ripley branch.
Mrs. William MacPherson gave a very
suitable poem. Each branch expressed
thanks for the. nice evening.
Mrs. Harold` Smith presided for the
opening exercises and the roll call was How
I handle personal stress, and was answered
by bothmembers and visitors.
Mrs. Douglas IvicEwan read the minutes
and gave the financial statement and the
Lucknow Junior Women's Institute is
holding a workshop op stress on Tuesday,
October 7. Anyone can attend. This family
and consumer affairs meetingclosed with
0 Canada and Grace was sung after which
a delicious lunch was served.

shermen's reunion . at Blyth on Saturday.
Nathan Munro who spent the past month
herd with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs..
Alex Percy and other relatives, , returned
home to. Winnipeg with Leonard and Terry
Stanley.
Mrs, Bob Brooks of Listowel visited an
afternoon with her. aunt Mrs, John Barr,
When Donald Barr was .on a trip to
Ottawa, hehad the pleasure of ' being a
dinner guest" with Mr. and Mrs. George
Bushell and family.
• Young folks whobegan the fall semester
for furthering their education were Cheryl
and Heather- Smith who are at Georgian
College, Owen . Sound taking a two year,
general business course. Sharon Mackie: is
at the same college taking a one year Legal
secretary course. Bruce Elliott is attending
Guelph ' University in an . Agricultural
Science course. Michael .Murray, is at Brock.
University at . St. Catharines. Gar best
wishes for success to all of these young

Debbie and Karen Hedley of Kitchener
spent the weekend attheir home here. ,
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. John
Visser (Beverley Hedley) on the arrival of
their baby 'son at Winghanr Hospital on
Sunday, September 7. He is a brother for
Tracey, Tim and Becky. Becky's birthday is
September 8.•

Seedless Fo ur holds meetings
The thirdmeeting of the Trinity Seedless
Four was held June 12 at Nancy Hunter's,
Four members and two leaders repeated
the 4-H pledge. Everyone then took turns
reading Throughout the meeting..
The members discussed some common
weeds that grow in our garden and if they
were annual, biennial or perennial.
The next meeting will be held at Shauna
Andrew's place. Refreshments were then
served by Nancy to end the meeting.
Fourth meeting
The fourth meeting of the Trinity
Seedless Four, was held on July 31 at 7
p.ni. in the Thorne of Shauna Andrew.
President Nancy Hunter called the
meeting to order and four members and

The group then talked about drying
vegetables ,.and the many ways of drying.
vegetables, then learned how, after drying
the vegetable, to restore the liquid to the
dried food.
The meeting closed and Shauna served
some refreshments to everyone.
