School enrolment up
Most schools in the Lucknow area have
experienced an increase in enrolment this
year over last year.
At the Lucknow Central Public School,
the number of &pills has increased by 65,
with 262 students compared to 197 last
year, says new Principal William Pike,
Mr. Pike says the sharp increase in the
student population at the school is due to
the closing of the Kinloss Central Public
School in June.
At Brookside Public School, the enroll-
ment has increased by 12 students. A total
of 381 students. up from 368, are attending
the school this year, said Principal Don
Tremeer.
Both the Lucknow and District Christian
School and St. Joseph's Community School
in Kingsbridge have the same enrolment
numbers as last year with 73 and 82
attendingthe schools, respectively. "
A number of new teachers are starting
this year at the area schools. M the
Lucknow Central Public School, • Mr.
William Pike is the new principal, and
Grade 0 mathematics teacher, replacing
Mr. Charles Davies who has taken a
principal's position at Arnabel-Hepworth
Public School near Owen Sound. Seven
other new teachers at the school are: Mrs.
Joan Black (Grade 2); Mr. Mike Bennett
(Grade 5); Mrs. Mary Kay MacKenzie
(Grade 8 and vice-principal); Joanne Mc-
Donagh (remedial); Miss Gail Matte
(family studies) and Mrs. Ruth ClQ,Iley
(part-time French).
Brookside Public School has tWo new
teachers this year. Mr. Rod Culp is the new
Grade 4-5 teacher while Miss Botanic
Jewitt is the new special education an;
music teacher.
St. Joseph's Community School in
Kingsbridge has two new teachers includ-
ing Mr. Ennis Murphy, the new, principal
who replaces, former principal David
Sharpe. Also, Mrs. Joanne Bullen is he
new Grade 3.4 teacher,
There are no changes to the teaching
staff at the Lucknow and District Christian
School this year.
Wilkinsempioyed in Mount Forest
•Elizabeth Wilkins, daughter of Charles
and Mayme Wilkins, is nal/ permanently
employed with the paper at: Mount .Forest.
Beau Riegling, son of Max and Helen
Riegling, has received word that he has
successfully passed. his Grade I piano exam
with the Royal Conservatory of Music.
•Beau has been taking lessons from Mrs.
Anita Depper near Wingham.
Finlay MacDonald had his steam engine
•
in Blyth at the annual Thresher Reunion on
September 4. Finlay will play his violin at
the concert in the village on Friday
evening.
• On Sunday evening, Wellington and Kae
Webster, and sons, Jim and Cecil Webster
of Waterloo, along with Mrs. Norma Young
of Goderich, visited in Clinton with Jack
and Marion and Lloyd Smith. Also, there
were Marion's brother, sister-in-law and
daughter, Fred, Florence and Julie Morrell
of Toronto; Julie's friend Ron, a daughter
Helen and friend Nick of London; another
daughter, husband and children, Paul,
Mary, Lisa and Adam Byers of Stratford; a
son Bill Smith of Goderich Township and
his friend Sue of Vanastra.
