which was used to herd the Sheep. "I only
wiped out once," he said.
One of the biggest thrills of working on
the farm was the rescuing of a sheep which
was stuck in the mud near a pond, Since
.the farm is so big, finding and rescuing a
sheep, is a rare occurence. •
"We saved the life Of a sheep in a dant
(pond) with all four feet stuck in the mud. It
looked very sick when we came across it in
one of the fields. We were lucky to get it
out of there in time," said Karl. •
Later, Karl worked for five weeks on a
•cotton farm near the New South Wales
town of Wee Waa. Re says the people say
the town name resulted when two Indians
came into the town and one said "wee"
and the other said "waa".
"I was interested in helping out there
because you can't grow cotton here in
Canada," he said. Re also worked on a
fruit farm while visiting Australia.
Karl said the people of Australia were
friendly, with a language all their own. In
Australia, the -hood of a car is the

The bird life in the country was
"remarkable"'says Karl, with cockatues
and the Crimson Rozellas being the most
beautiful variety of bird in the country.
When you think of Australia, you

they cross their land.
To end the trip, Karl says he travelled to
Lucknow, New South Wales from which he
brought a souvenir tea -towel back for his
mother. Lucknow, in Australia, is smaller
than Lucknow, Ontario with approximately.
200 to 300 people residing there. "I think it
had a pub, a warehouse and a gas station,"
he said.
Most of all, the trip was a learning
situation, especially learning how to deal
with the various government L agencies.
"It was a really good experience. It had
its ups and downs, but everything was a
learning experience," says Karl.
