Mrs. Beaupre said a combination of the child care options could be used in the rural setting, except for a Child Care Centre which would not be feasible to run as at least 16 children are needed to make a Centre worthwhile, both from a program and an economic staR94, lint. A system of private home care, she says, seems to be the most popular with rural women. She also said a registry of children and care givers would also not be a possibility as there tends to be "liability problems" which have to be resolved. A number of child care pilot projects are now underway M similar farming com- munities with impressive results, said Mrs. Beaupre. Currently, a dayeare centre is perating in Holland Centre in Grey County in the summer during peak farming times. Also, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, through the Ministry of Community and Social Services, is spon- soring four pilot daycare projects in farming areas of,Tanniskarraing, Dufferin, Lambton and Northumberland Counties to se how various systems of child care would work. "We're looking at how that project turns out," said Mrs. BeauPre. ° As far as the number of care givers available in this area, Mrs. Beaupre said the survey has indicated there are a number 9f people interested in being a care giver in their own home. 'The cost of ,daycare ranges from Si to $2.50 per hour per child. However, she said there is subsidies available through county pro- grams to families who can't afford daycare.
