munity Centre Complex. It was arranged by
MX lady directors by Dianne Gamble and:
Gail van der Hoek along with Pat Chatham, .
Susan Van Sickle, Mary Ann Forster of
Point Clark and Joan Smith of the Sixth con-
cession. east. Susan and Pat reported at the
Agricultural meeting that it was a most suc-
cessful show and they gave the Ripley
Agricultural Society treasurer Sheila Mac-
Donald a cheque for $800.
They had taken a survey of the crafters and
voted to hold a one day show on the Saturday
of the May 24 holiday weekend. This will be
Sat. May 23, 1987 on the calendar.
The Society received an invitation to at-
tend the 125th anniversary fair at Tiverton
on the first weekend in October, This is just
a week after the Ripley Huron fall fair on
the last. Friday and Satrday in September.
In fact there are four local fairs on the
weekends starting with Lucknow, then
Ripley, Tiverton and Teeswater - all one
week apart. Susan and Pat are to help get a
float ready for the fairs around.
Gordon Patterson reported on the field
crops, Secretary Doh MacTavish made a
sumrnary of the meeting. Vice-president
Bob Thompson acted as chairman of this
meeting.
The next meeting of the Ripley
Agricultural Society will be on Monday
evening September 8 at 9 p.m. And it will be
the one preceeding the Ripley Huron fall
fair.

Watched for meteorites
Last Tuesday Aug, 12 it was announced
with frequent repeats on the radio that if we
just went outside between 9 .and 10 pan., we
would see a shower of meteorites hi the
north west sky. Something like 40 to 50 of
these shooting starts., could easily be seen
per hour. However this astronomical
display did not happen. So we had our first
good look at the night sky in years the Big
Dipper and the North Star and the others. It
was a nice calm cool evening.
In Ripley here the true north direction is
towards Kincardine rather than 15th road.
We will likely keep on feeling that north is
•out the 15th even if we know better.
Shipped top priced Battle
In the weekly report from the Ontario
Livestock Yards in Toronto last Friday
evening local drovers Allan Coning of
Ripley and Burton Shewfelt of Kincardine
were named for shipping top priced cattle
during last week.
New arcade opened up
Ripley's Arcade recently opened • next
door to the Lynn Nicholson Grocery Store
(Superior Market). It has games for young
folks. In the big front window there is a
display ,of finely finished wooden furniture.
Above the shop there are living .quarters.

grocery. At the- bottom of the last week
_sheet,
.August 12 to 16, in the right hand cor-
ner in small print under "Shop Locally" she
has a piece which we feel could apply to all
local stores in this area *: Tiverton, Kincar-
dine, Ripley and Lucknow.
° Ab Wylds can not word it the way Lynn
put it but we think it worth reading. So we
have copied it - "Remember : your money
buys more when you shop at a local store:
It's good for you, good for us, good for the,
community." She also`says' "you're morel
than just a customer, you're a good friend
and neighbour". Now that you have read it -
think about its general application in the`
above area, Not only does it work for shopp-
ing but also to other trades
In a nutshell you scratch my back and I
will scratch your back and we will all feel
better.
Dozens of butterflies
On this sunny .Sunday afternoon here a
look out the back door at the open space
made up of the rear, lawns of the Royal Rank
and our own, place, the Cecil . Sutton
Machinery display lot and on. to the railway
land to the north shows just dozens of those
butterflies.
White 'Cabbage butterflies are flitting
here and there on a search for food and fun.
The food for these adults is the nectar in any
blossoms or flowers. In their younger days -
a few weeks ago it wasthe green leaves of
any plant belonging to the Mustard family
(the Cruciferae)
