Large crowd attends Nicholson auction
Owners en and Lynn Nicholson report a
pod sale on the Civic holiday, Monday
August 4, 1986 at their farm on the South
Line one block east of the l5th(Brncc County
oad). It was a pleasant day to be outside -
bright and sunny, with dry grounds so there
was a big crowd at it.
Home economist Tracy Hamilton of the
Alberta Department of Agriculture at Ed-
rnonton, the daughter of Deanna Blackwell
f the Fourth concession was here last week.
She was visiting with her grandfather Stan
Blackwell on the 4th concession in Huron
township and with her grandmother Mrs.
Doris Blackwell of Pinecrest Manor Nurs-
ing Home in Lucknow. Stan said that his.
wife Doris had one day home from the Nurs-
ing Home for an extra pleasant visit.

Donald and Angela Bell of Etobicoke have
been holidaying at their home in Ripley.
Visitors with them have been Virginia and
Gar Jackson of Thornhill, and Freda and
Leonard Meinnes of Lucknow.
Friends of Ian Macpherson will be sorry
to hear that he is ill in an Ottawa hospital,
and everyone sends him their best wishes.

A pleasant afternoon was spent July 29 at
the home of Marion Gamble in honor of Mrs.
Jean Hunter, who is making her home with
her daughter Thelma Robertson in Kincar-
dine Township. Music was enjoyed by Pearl
McDonald with the violin accompanied by
Marion at the piano. Readings were given
by Grace Murray, Doris Rock, and Frances

Mrs. Hunter and she expressed her thanks
and invited everyone to call on her in her
new home. Everyone enjoyed cake and ice
cream and bad a good visit.
Homemaker nurse Mrs. Lynn Thornicroft
called here for a visit a few weeks ago. Ab
Wylds had last talkedc, with Lynn in the
hospital.
Niels Frederiksen was home here for a
Week. He had been at County Road Lodge
operated byrs. Dorothy Farrish 'on the
12th concesMn west in Ashfield towriship.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert McElhanney of Burl-
ington and Mr, and Mrs, James McElhan-
ney of Kapuskasing visited Mrs. W.J.
Mackay of Huron Villa in Ripley on Friday.
Then they drove from here to visit relatives
in Walkerton..
Reg Moore of Hanover called last Satur-
day afternoon to say that former Ripleyites
Ivan and Opal Benson are holding their 50th
Anniversary next Sunday, August 17, 1986.
Olive and Percy Schacht of RR 4, Ripley -
were priltileged to live through 50 years of
married life. They were married in their
native Kitchener, August 1st, 1936 by their
pastor, the late Rev. Clarke Logan of
Frederick St. United Church.
Their two sons, Brian and Cammie and,
their children spent the weekend with them.
As well many neighbours and outrof-town
friends r dropped in for the open house
weekend.
. They also were the recipients of the
customary scrolls and good wishes - from
the Governor General; Prime Minister
Mulroney; M.P. Murray Cardiff, and a
"personally delivered" plaque from
Premier Peterson's office by staff member
Rod MacDonald.
With the lights still aglow after midnite,
their only shortcoming was,that they could
not trip the- "light fantastic" of many years

Mrs'. Bette MacLeod of the Fourth conces-
sion east in Huron township, Noel and Diane
MacLeod and son Robert of Toronto have
just returned frorn the McConnell Family
Reunion in Edmonton. Over fifty were in at-
tendance, coming from New Orleans, Van-.
couver, Calgary, Ripley, Toronto, and Ed-
monton. Bette says that they brought the
sunshine. It was really nice. Before that it
had been cold. 'Thanks to Bette for this item.
Last Friday Mrs. Gladys Mason of Ripley
was transferred from Kincardine District
Hospital to aitland Manor Nursing Home
in Goderich. On Sunday Don and Anne Mc -
Cosh of Ripley and Purple Grove and Currie
Colwell Of South Kinloss visited her. '
The big event for Ripley this past weekend
was the wedding of Martin Phelan and Mrs.
Lorna Middelkamp. The marriage
ceremony was held in St. Andrews United
Church in Ripley on Saturday afternoon.
The sun was shining for the usual car tour of
the streets. The wedding dinner was in the
Ripley Legion Hall. The reception dance
was in the Ripley Complex with David Owen
and his D.J. There was a real goodturn out.
• Niels Frederiksen is expecting to enter
Brucelea Haven right beside the County of
Bruce Genera' Hospital in Walkerton this
weekend.

° Last Thursday with Manager Terri
Biglow 111, Shirley MacKay of Ripley joined
Melissa Middelkamp of Blake Street, Ripley
in looking after the Ripley restaurant.
Melissa said yes that they liked the item in
• both this paper and in the Lucknow Sentinel
about the restaurant opening. As reported
before the ladies are kind and obliging. -They
are glad to meetthe folks.
The Senior Citizens Church service was
held at Knox Presbyterian Church at 9:30
last Sunday morning. There was a good at-
tendance. Florence Kirkpatrick led a hymn
sing before the service. The Old Testament
lession from Isaiah chapter 40 verses 25 to 31,
was read by Zilla Hedley. And the. New
Testament lesson from Titus chapter 2,
verses 1 to 15 was read by Anne McCosh.
Florence Kirkpatrick and Margaret Gem-
mell sang a duet "Heaven Came Down and
Glory Filled my Soul".
Rev. Hugh Nugent, minister of Knox
Church spoke on "Good News at Any Age".
Seniors helped out in the choir. Ab Wylds
