The president, Paddy Hedley, opened the picnic and thanked his grandmother i'©r being the hostess. There were 65 persons in attendance. Games were enjoyed by the y lung, under the supervision 46f Karen Hedley, Kendra Haldenby, Shelly Shewfellt and Kim Tulford. New officers were elected for two years. They are president, Bob Haldenby; secret- ary, Brenda Brown. Vicki Brown and Lori. O'Malley volunteered to supervise the games. The lunch committee members are Michael and Norma O'Malley, Ken and Brenda Brown., Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal which was organized by Sandra Haldenby, Betty Johnston and Erlma Haldenby. A social time was enjoyed by all, People report Mr. and Mrs. Russell Walker of Petrolia visited on Thursday with Mr,,..Yolin Barr. Miss Winnifred. Percy of helm• and Mrs. Mary Campbell of Kincardine returned home after an enjoyable bus trip to Western Canada. They also took in Expo '86 in Vancouver. The Bervie Men for Missions held. their annual supper at Fisherman's Cove on, Saturday evening. Some from here attend- ed. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson and Lois spent the weekend at Ballinafad celebrat- ing the 25th wedding anniversary. of Mr. Filter ueen "IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN VARNA" and Mrs. N. E. pvans. Congratulations Ted and Karen. Mr. and Mrs. Joey Jansen and Stanley of Cochrane are visiting here with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy and Mr, and Mrs. Glen Haldenby and family. Tara Thacker is enjoying a two week holiday with cousins at London, Mr. and Mrs, Gerald Rhody and their grandson Travers Brace visited on Friday evening at Hanover with Mr. and Mrs, Maurice Rhody. • Mr, and Mrs. Howard Bennett, who had spent a week sailing at Georgian Bay, spent the weekend here with their grand- father, Arthur Haldenby. They returned home to Toronto on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Stanley of Lucknow •spent Sunday evening with Edna and May Boyle. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stanley and Terry returned- home from their western trip where they visited with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Howie and Kristin and Miss Debbie Hedley of Kitchener spent last weekend with Mr. •and Mrs. Delbert Hedley and attended the Haldenby family picnic. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barr and Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bushell visite& on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.. Harry Jewitt at Sarnia and with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Walker at Petrolia. Day Centre busy in August By Joan Arbuckle Those who thought July was a busy month at the day centre will want to look out for August as many events are planned forthe next few- weeks. Several fundraising events are planned. for August with the proceeds going back to fulfill the day centre's budget require- ments. The first bake sale will be held on. August 2 at Point Farms and the second one at the Wingham Camp Grounds. Foot Clinics at the centre are a special service provided by the Community Nurs- ing Services. One such foot clinic will be held on Thursday, August 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. Please phone 357-1440 or 357-1445 if. you would like to participate in this health service. ' The centres focus for the tnonth of August is on pure old-fashioned entertain- ment. On Thursday, August 7, the film "It's a Wonderful Life"will be shown.. This 1946 feature film stars James Stewart, Donna, Reed and Lionel Barry - more, Entertainment afternoons are planned on August 12, 13 and 14. The seniors have enjoyed the previous plays -and I am sure they will like this one as well. . Pam Williams, , the director of the Centre, will show her slides of her year-long stay in Sri Lanka on August 26 and 27. Pam taught English in this country and her slides will illustrate the many cultural differences between our styles of living. And finally, on Thursday, August 28, the Day Centre will host a visiting seniors day group from Kitthener. Mr, Elmer Umbach from the Lucknow community has consent- ed to share his time and talents with us at this time. If anyone would like to participate in day programs during the month of February, please call 357-1440 or 357-1445. Trans- portation is provided by volunteer drivers •and there is a daily activity fee which goes toward the meal and other activity costs. WI scholarship The Bruce County Women's Institute Scholarship Committee takes pleasure in announcing the winner of the Bruce County Ontario Women's Institute Scholarship (in a 4-H competition) - Marie Krauter. Marie is the daughter of, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Krauter of R. R. #3, Elmwood. Marie received a cheque for $200 and she will receive a Certificate of Merit at a later date. Marie completed 26 4-H clubs. In her high school years she was active in Family Studies, Library, Drama Club, Yearbook and Band. Crafts, drawing, figure skating, sewing and plowing are among her special interests. She was Bentinck Township "Queen of the Furrow". In her community, She is active in the St. John Ambulance, where she has life-saver and heart -saver certificates. Other activit- ies include candy -striping and Junior Farmers. The Scholarship is awarded every year to the winner of a 4-11 competition and is judged by Women's Institute Representa- tives of all Bruce County W.I. Districts on a point system. Four other young women entered the competition. Marie was the unanimous choice of the Scholarship Committee. She hopes to go into public relations and eventually seek employment in the Minist- ry of Agriculture and Food. A future Minister of Agriculture maybe? Who knows! She will be a pretty one for she also was the first runner-up in the Miss Bruce 441 Competition held recently.
