Since the tabling of Bill 94 last December we have been unswerving in our opposi- tion. During the. winter and spring we offered further concessions which would have solved any perceived problem without resort to the sledge -hammer of legislation, Again you rebuffed ue. As an ultimate protest against Bill 94, the physicians of Ontario were forced to withdraw all but emergency services for a period of more than three weeks. After the Bill became law, the general withdrawal of services was terminated. This does .not mean that physicians accept Bill 94. Far from it -Indeed, I must warn you that the repeal of the Health Care Accessibility Act is the overriding priority of the Ontario Medical Association. The emigration of physicians, the dosing of unique clinics and the cessation of special procedures, which you have already witnessed, are but the tip of the iceberg. Your legislation will cause irreparable harm to the health care system. All our available resources will be devoted:to restoring the excellent system which your government has attacked. Your offer to negotiate a "physicians' bill of rights" merely underscores our contention that the legislation is discrim- inatory and makes a sham of our civil liberties. Physicians want to more than the rights of all other citizens in society, including those rights abrogated by the Health Care Accessibility Act. Sincerely yours, Richard IL. Railton, M.D. President.
