and baking and quite often it was Johnny
who took the prize for chocolate cake.
Eggs had a section of theirown, prizes for
one dozen brown and white. It was per-
missible to select one or two- of the best at
home then solicit the best from the
neighbors to complete the required dozen.
Exhibits were placed in thehallin the mor-

attached to some part of the township
shed.
Promptly at one, the "March" began.
Sometimes there was a band or drum, but
always the teacher walked beside her com-
pany to supply the, "left, left, left -right -

school yell. It is not clear just how these

Country Fair proves popular
,
The Christmas Country Fair
The "Christmas Country Fair" held each October now in its 19th year was organized in
1966 by a group of area craftspeople: Mesdames: Annie Lamb, Phyllis Allin, Adelaide
Feagan, Grace Easom and . Evelyn Hardy to 'promote the sale -of local, crafts for
Christmas gifts. It soon became a big event in the community.
Mrs. Evelyn Hardy performed most capably as convenor until 1982 when she felt it was
time to take a rest.
The old-fashroned country cooperation was very evident as manyin tire Township of
Colborne became involved.
The "Country Fair" theme that proved popular with the thousands who attended each
year portrayed nostalgia, friendliness and a happy country. atmosphere. Highlights are
the country baking, quality crafts, "The Flower Pot" and the.delicious meals served.

A Time for Celebrationt

be proud of, it is certainly a time for celebration for the
