HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1986-06-18, Page 20Page 20—Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, June 18, 1986 Graduation ceremonies were held on June 6 at the University of Guelph when Debbie Lowry received her Bachelor of Applied Science Honours Degree in Family and Consumer Studies, majoring in Child Studies. Debbie is presently working at Mother's Helpers Day Care in Kincardine and will be attending the Faculty of Education at Brock University in St. Catharines in the fall. Debbie is the daughter of Marion and Perrin Lowry, R.R. 1, Kincardine. Dance duet at recital Kelly Stevenson and Angela Boyd of Lucknow took part in a step -dancing recital in Teeswater last week. The girls, who are students of Heidi Prit- chard, danced a duet. Heidi also teaches in Teeswater and is a member of a group called the Clicker Con- nection. This group also danced at the recital and also provided entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening at the Fiddlers' .Jamboree in Exeter a few weeks ago. 4LI by Lorraine McGuire Lucknow native married in May Congratulations to Joyce Black of Edmonton and David Olinger of Grande Prairie, Alberta who were married on May 17 in Edmonton. Joyce is the daughter of Mrs. Mary Black and the late Walter Black of Lucknow. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Olinger of Dawson Creek. Mr. Allan Young left for the west to spend some time visiting with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Steele and family of London spent the weekend at their home here. Joyce Black and David Olinger, of Grande Prairie, Alberta, spent two weeks holidaying in Ontario and visited with family and friends. Joyce formerly lived on the fourth concession of Huron Township. Nany McGuire, Mike Moskal and Adon of Ingersoll visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGuire and Brian. Mrs. West Smith held a social get together for friends and neighbours on Wednesday evening, May 30 for Joyce Black who was married in Edmonton on May 17. Following several contests and readings, Joyce was presented with an envelope of money and thanked those responsible for putting on the evening for her. Lottery winners Mary Nelson drew the winning tickets in the 29th draw of the Lucknow Sports Complex Lottery. Winner of the $500 was Les Petter with Harvey Livingston winning $300; Bob Finlay of St. Thomas winning $100 and Janice Londry winning $100. Winners in the June 7 Port Albert Lottery draw were Don Mitchelmore of Goderich, $300; Don Ellison of Goder- ich, $100 and Charles Culbert of Nile, $100. Winning tickets were drawn by Theresa Meriam. Attends Clinton holstein show *from page 13 Holstein show. Her day was a very busy one. Betty says the turn out for the show was very good. On Friday Mr. and Mrs. Art Matthew - man went to Toronto and picked up their son, Doug Matthewman who had flown in from Vancouver, British Columbia. They went on to Kingston where Mr. Matthew - man had a business meeting. Then the three of them went on to Prescott to pick up their two grandsons, Jamie and Beau Pettis and brought them home with them for a few days vacation. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb were Bob and Sandra Darling and family of Hanover and William and Shirley Irvin and family of Ashfield Town- ship. Ewan and Marj MacLean had Marj's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Williamson visit with them recently. Pine River UCW The May meeting of the UCW of the Pine River United Church was held Tues- day evening, May 10 in the church. The meeting was very well attended as there were ladies invited from eight UCW clubs in the area, four of the Bruce Presbytery.. Audrey Ferguson welcomed all the ladies and extended a very special welcome to the guest of the evening, Rob MacFarlane, Regional Director of the Leprosy Foundation of Canada.. Audrey Ferguson introduced the guest speaker, Bob MacFarlane. He showed a tilm that had been taken in Indonesia on the prevention of leprosy. The film was titled Turn of the Tide. It was a very informative film, showing how they look for the disease, how it is helped and the many thousands that are cured. Mr. McFarlane told the ladies of the many countries that are visited by the foundation and how much help is required of the people to keep on with their work. In 1983, there were found to be 184 with the disease in Canada. Norma Humphrey thanked Mr. MacFar- lane for his informative talk and film. Maithel Wilson also thanked Mr. McFar- lane and the ladies for coming. Gloria Rutledge gave the treasurer's report. The ladies were reminded the Kountry Kitchen bazaar will be October 11.
