Concert Band back from annual trip By Cathy Hamilton May was a busy month for the Lucknow Concert Band. On Friday, May 9, they presented their annual band concert at the Lucknow Com- munity Centre. Junior Band members, with their outstanding musical talents, assisted the senior group to make the pro- gram a great success. One of the highlights for the band was the annual band trip which took them to the Stratford -Kitchener area during the week of May 20. Early Tuesday morning, Mr. Cayley and 79 enthusiastic band members along with Ms. Reid and two bus drivers boarded the buses for a fantastic week of performing at schools and for just plain craziness. The received a warm welcome at all the schools where they performed. The con- certs featured special appearances by some famous people such as Popeye and Brutus, the Greatest American Hero and the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Of course, the teddy bears picnicked with the youngsters and some even got a surprise "bear hug". Let's not forget Miss Piggy and her bud- dies from the Muppet Show who added a little humor to the opening song. However, not all was work (if you can call it work) . There was time for fun and games too. While shopping at several malls, the band members supported the stores by buying shades, Hulksters, sporty outfits and food for that night's party. Swimming at an indoor pool at the Con- estoga Inn satisfied the water babies although there were some surprise splashes. When the bus arrived at Lucknow Cen- tral Public School on Friday afternoon, the tired and weary band members realized another successful season for the band had just passed by.
