was turned down in their attempt to get the
owners fair compensation for these proper-
ties was two -fold. The village needed to
have a secondary plan in place and also the
properties should be submitted in a list to
the MVCA instead of individually. The
properties would then be evaluated by the
Authority and an offer would be made to
the owner.
The secondary plan for the village is well
underway with "special policies" for the
plan still under discussion. However, the
village intends to submit a list of properties
in the flood plain area to the Authority for
consideration "within a year's time", said
Reeve Clark.
Mrs. Glenn, who also attended the
meeting, asked council if they could not
establish a building on the property, why
should they continue paying taxes on the
land.
"You've accepted our tax dollars for 18
years, but you haven't done anything about
it (altering the flood plain designation),"
she said.
Councillor Ab Murray said the Glenns
should appeal their tax assessn fnt. be.
cause of the MVCA's policies preventing
building on flood plain areas.
"If you can't build on your property,
then you should appeal on those grounds,"
said Mr. Murray.
