New business in Dungannon
By Alan Rivett
Since May 1, a new and different kind of
business had opened its doors to the public
in Dungannon.
Terry and Heather McClinchey of God-
erich and Greg Hamilton of Lucknow have
opened Saxony Flooring, a business which
will cater to the areas flooring, kitchen
cabinet and carpetting needs.
Mr. McClinchey said they chose to locate
in Dungannon as it is central to both
Lucknow and Goderich and, because of low
overhead costs, they can sell the products
cheaper.
Low overhead
"We've found that people in this area
will drive to London, Kitchener and Strat-
ford, but here it's only 15 minutes and we
have all their flooring needs. We have little
overhead, so it's not going to be that
dear," said Mr. McClinchey, who has 16
years of experience in flooring and kitchen
cabinets.
They choose, however, to describe the
business as a contract business rather than
a retail store. "But everyone is more than
welcome to come and visit," said Mr.
McClinchey with himself and Mr. Hamil-
ton involved in both sales and installations.
In this type of business, customers can
make an appointment to sit down and talk
BUSINESS
about the type of material and the price
range which fits into their budget, as the
average kitchen renovation could cost
$2,500 and up, says Mr. McClinchey.
Service oriented
"We're customer and service oriented.
They can phone us during the weekdays or
on Saturdays, at their leisure and we can
sit and have a coffee and talk about it. We
want to give them everything they demand
in the line of service for their money," says
Mr. McClinchey.
So far, says Mr. McClinchey, the public
reaction to the flooring and carpet store has
been "very good". Before the store was
even opened, there were people taking the
time to browse through the merchandise on
hand.
The store carries, or has access to, a
complete line 'of kitchen cabinets (Acorn
and Port Elgin), flooring (Armstrong,
Domcor) and carpetting (Burlington, Con-
stellation and Richmond), he said.

money he so desperately needs.
As part of the scheme, Birdie moves into
the MacAfee home and lives with a
"normal" American family consisting of
the harried middle -age father, played by
Phi11 Smith, the comforting mother, played
by Donna Steckley, and the awkward,
almost geek-ish son, played by Clint
Pewtress in addition to the boy -crazy Kim.
The play, reminiscent of the mayhem
which surrounded the recruitment of Elvis
Presley into the army, was carried off with
zeal by the student actors. The audience
not only savored the fine comedic acting

and the first rate singing - but they also
received an inside, light-hearted look at the
generation gap which was never wider than
in the 1950's.
The pit band, consisting of students in
the music program . (which started last
September) provided a solid enough base
for the musical production. The band was
directed by music teacher John Matthews.
The 50's style, costumes added to the
authenticity of the play and the set designs
were also a definite asset.
Overall, the play was a pleasant glimpse
at the now distant 50's when teen idols,
mini skits and The Ed Sullivan Show were
in vogue.
